Hi guys! I am not only brand new to this forum, but was referred to this forum from the Chevytalk forum. I'm doing a complete frame off restoration of a '63 Impala (Hey, at least it's GM) and I have finally decided to switch out a freshly rebuilt Powerglide for a 2004r for improved mileage & enjoyment. I wondered if anyone here might help me a little to make this transition. A friend of mine has located this transmission at a reasonable price from a transmission shop in IL, and I should have it in hand within two weeks. Unfortunately, I don't know much about it right now. But, I have looked at some info on a 700r4 site and have started to learn a little about other items that may be needed. For instance, is there a relatively simple, inexpensive way to change the mounting position for the 200? It is apparently 6 1/2" to the rear of the present Pglide. And how will I have to hook up the TVS?? cable and adjust things properly. Or will this be beyond a novice restorer like me? By the way, it's powered by the 327 with Carter AFB. Rear end is 3.36. It's just in rolling chassis form now,so now's the time to do it. I believe the length of the new tranny will be almost excactly the same, so it seems like this should slip in without changing much of anything else. I'm in the Indy area, so if anyone can give me some basic knowledge, I'd be very grateful. My use will be mainly cruising, not racing. What things should I ask about this transmission I'm getting, or be sure to get with it, etc. You can email me, if you don't want this type of discussion on your threads. Thanks!!!!
