Hey guys, a chromoly 1350 yoke came with my Dennys drive shaft. I was told by a friend if i remove my yoke it will screw up the clearances on my ring and pinion and it would need to be pulled apart and redone. I thought I could just remove the yoke and put a new seal yoke in and torque it down, is my friend right??

thanks!

there is a procedure, it is something like jack the rear end up, remove tires and brake drums, put car in neutral. Using a inch pound needle torque wrench on the pinion yoke nut measure the torque on the needle guage while turning the yoke with the torque wrench. Remember that inch pound #. remove pinion nut, washer, yoke and seal. install new seal, yoke, washer with silicone on backside of washer to seal yoke splines. Install nut and torque nut in steps until the same inch pound # is reached while turning pinion nut with torque wrench. Be very careful not to overtighten. Refil diff fluid along with a little bit of posi additive if required.

Arent they torqued to a spec number from the fac?? Mine has never been touched.

Let me know if you need a 1350 yoke. I purchased one from Strange and I am now going 9". Its brand new, I am going to send it back but they are going to charge me a restocking fee. If you want it I'll sell it to you for what they are giving me back. Of course you will need to cover shipping.

Let me know.

Dave

I've wondered about that myself. Interesting.
