Ok I had another posting on here about no boost I got that sloved for the most part and I have been working with my headers and exhuast today. The problem I have is the passenger side header is carcked real bad and I have another one that came with the car but it is huge compared to the stock one. The drivers side is cracked as well and I am having that welded up because I have a self full of stock cracked ones. The questions I have are this. My Mease downpipe and the new header are causing problems with each other. The new header is so fat it is pushing the downpipe back towards the heater box more:eek: Will this be a fire hazard or am I just freaking out for nothing? How good do the factory driver side headers flow?? Should I change it out for a better one? I have a real nice downpipe and crossover pipe and right header, but the factory left header is that ok?? And last but not least should I use that heat wrap crap on my downpipe and uppipe to keep the heat down??? My sparkplug wires are melting from the heat and I am sick of changing them out:rolleyes:

i'd change the header for a better one if moneys not a issue. stock hot air headers are pretty crappy flow design imo.

as far as heaterbox. anytime you got hot exhaust parts coming into contact with things their not supposed to, is going to end up causeing you problems sooner or later. probably won't melt it, but will end up damaging it eventually with the engine twisting and rattling against it. also, it might cause you false knock.

if your melting plug wires, i'd try to come up with ways to keep them off your exhaust parts via tie wraps, insulating them, running them a differant route, etc...

Ok I had the driverside header welded up and the guy did a killer job. I don't see why everyone says the headers are stainless steel??? Magnets stick to them and they are rusted real good. I have to put everything back together now and go from there. I guess I just really have to fine tune it and hope it gets better from there. But you guys don't think I should have any big problems???

Some stainless is magnetic. And some will also show some surface rust. Next time you're in St Louis, take a good look at the arch down low where you can touch it. Look at the spots where people have scratched it with a knife or carved their initials into it. There is some slight surface rust discoloration there.

But yes. The factory headers are stainless.

All steel based metals will eventually rust. My stainless sink proves it. I had a bleach/water mix in a spray bottle that leaked and the results were rust on the top where it sat.

Yes I know, I know!!

I know stainless steel does rust!! Key words are "stain less". I just figure it was some huge taboo with welding stainless steel and I told the guy who welded it up that I was told it it was stainless. He stuck a magnet to it and told me its most likly not!! Oh well, I got it welded up and he did a great job on it, and that is about as far as I am going to be going for a while. I think I am just going to park the cars in the back of the shop and let them collect dust for now:rolleyes: Thanks for all the sdvice and take care and good luck with your cars!!
