:( When trying to adjust iac my scanmaster reads either 000 or 175 depending on adjustment. No codes-- nothing. It can be .42 tps and 000 iac with rpm at 750 or it can end up at 1400+rpm .42 tps and 175 iac. There is no in between.

I assume its dirty or bad. 120,000 miles on it so I ordered a new one. Just wondering if it could be anything else. Thanks

I doubt it is bad.

They can be cleaned and should be. Pintle end and also the housing seat itself with O2 safe cleaner.

Are you resetting the key to off and on often while performing each move of the idle air bleed screw? If not you should be.

If at 000 at .42tps try backing the screw outwards 1/4 turn and shutting the key off and then back running.

A spare will be good to have just in case it's bad. :)

Yep every time I turn her off and re start. Whats confusing to me is that when I do get a reading of even 3-=-I shut the car off and restart--- it goes slowly but steadily up 175. then I'll go thru about 10 steps of backing off the iac and changing the tps to stay around .42 and shutting of the car. There is no 150,100,90 ,70 ,10 reading on my scanmaster. I have to keep changing the tps,and then it goes slowly but steadily back to 000.

It,s got me baffled. All other reading on the scanmaster read ok. I'm going to try from the beginning AGAIN and see what happens. thanks.

Starter is getting hot now. It's like is moving all the way in or all the way out. I got it to 47 once then in about 30 seconds it slowly but steadily it made its way to 000.
For now I'm leaving it at 175. tps is.36-- bl is at 40--rpm 700-- blm 125-131-- af 4-- ats 95-- o2 at closed loop is 190 to 600.

Anybody else have any ideas. thanks

If cleaning it doesn't work, then go ahead & replace it when your new gets in. :)

Is the idle rpms steady at 700 all the time? If they are, I personally wouldn't worry about getting the iac counts perfect. Now, if the rpms were fluctuating up & down, then I'd be working on the iac.

Go ahead & reset the tps to around .42.

It's more important to have the tps set correctly than to have the iac counts perfect.

Just my o2.:)

b231V6,

I am running into the same problem with a customers GN. I have recaled. the IAC a dozen times now. I have noticed that the motor does not idle up on start up and come down to 750-800 rpms. It is just a flat idle on start up. I have a new IAC on the shelf, I am going to install it today and see if this changes anything.

I have replaced all of the vacuum lines as part of the tune up. They were all bad. The TB, intake, plenum etc. seems to have a good seal. All of the readings look good except for the IAC.

Chris: sounds just like my problem, hopefully a new iac cures it. I too don't have any leaks that I can find either.

Chris, did you come up with anything on your cust's. car with the weird IAC. Jace

? When you install paper clip in the in the A B ports on your ALDL and then turn on the key---Is your IAC just suppose to go to full open not more than 1 1/8 th inch. Mine opens to 1 1/4 inch. I adjust the pintle and try again. but it always goes back to 11/4 open. Is this a sign that it's bad. Jace

I have been fighting the same problem, I have replaced the iac,
no vaccum leaks, iac still drops to zero, tps has been adjusted
to .42, PLEASE HELP!!
