Anyone who has this kit will prob also have a remote mount IAC block. The thing with this block is that you must find a vac source after the TB and another spot to hook the remaining line. PLUS you have to find a suitable spot to mount the IAC block too.

After much consideration I have decided to have a shop build me a new thermostat housing - or mod my existing one. The IAC can and will fit in the stock location on the bottom of the TB - BUT - you must mod the existing thermostat housing or fab up a new one. There is only 1 1/4" of space (height) for the new housing with the IAC in place.

It could be made from simple sheet metal with relative ease and some welding skills. Then you have to worry about the pipe that comes out of the one side of the stock housing and crosses over the top of it. No problem - thats why JS Manufacturing drilled and tapped a second hole beside your CTS (coolant temp sensor). Just get a hose barb to fit it and connect up the hose.

In my opinion this method saves a lot of hassle for the IAC and possible probs you may run into. You will need an IAC extend wire from Caspers though...

Any thoughts ???

See my pic for the idea and R+D :D - ive also included pics of the space available under the IAC.

Your situation is one of the concerns I've had about this kit. Did it come with instructions? How much have you had to 'improvise'?

Thanks.

Improvise

Well.. here it is
- ive had to cut a fraction of the top of the alum alt bracket 'cause it interferes with the path of the TB intake pipe
- im currently tig welding a 'roof' to the top of my thermostat housing 'cause I decided to cut the upper half off to allow for the IAC to be mounted in orig spot under the TB
- theres an extra 3/8" hole drilled and tapped beside my CTS on the top of the intake - so I either plug it or run a coolant hose to it with a copper hose barb screwed in place
- which brings me to another issue: HOSE!!! good luck finding one to attach to the rear of the pump and the extra hose port tapped in the top beside the CTS. I had to cut one up and use copper pipe to make it work. My thermostat has the orig. cut off now where this line would normally go.
- vac lines will be all new (87 style) and differently setup
- theres no PCV drilled (so im forgetting about it)
- theres no vac in the rear like to '85 (no biggie - just T into and existing vac line for this)
- you need a TA style inlet bell for the turbo - where your 85 TB used to be.

and I think thats just about a complete list of the 'extras'. All together - its a great intake / IC kit. Very well put together but no - no instructions included. Its pretty straight fwd anyway. Just like taking the old intake off - and putting a new one on I guess.

Mine should be runnin this week. Ill keep ya posted.

let me know how well moding the thermostat housing works for you as i built my own intake like theres and dont have a iac relocator.
and if you can post pics and how much you removed.

thanks keith

Sure Keith will do. The total room avl from the bottom of the IAC to the surface of the intake is 1 1/4". I basically cut the housing in half.

The housing is at the shop getting tig welded - hope to get it back in a day or so. I will post pics of the modded housing and also show how much I cut off. I am hoping that flow wont be an issue or im pretty much screwed. I doubt it will be a problem though.

Worst case scenario - I get the shop to make me a new custom housing - problem is - it could cost $$$. Prob like 150 - 200 bones.

Keith

Not sure - just hang tight for a bit - I will have my car fired up and running.
Want to make sure that I dont need the remote IAC - I will only need it if the new therm housing (now more restrictive) heats the car up.

Otherwise - you got first dibbs on it.

Ill let ya know in the next few days.

Supposed to get my thermostat housing back tomorrow. Hopefully have it on the car and running by the weekend.

Only thing i'm waiting for now are my hoses...I found out that the TA33 has a 2" outlet for the hose - not 2 1/2" like I have. Had to order hose transducer (2" to 2 1/2") in order to make the connection.

I figured for looks i'd also order all blue hose too - i'll replace the black hose they gave me with blue. Plus better clamps too....

Its coming UPS - go Mr.Brown go
