IAC screw

hello people; Well I finally get around to adjusting my IAC to get my idle lower with the TT chip and that screw is frozen. I just started with the penetrating oil and we'll see what happens. Any helpfull advise as I don't think that screw has moved in years?

I've never had that problem before.

You might try using visegrips on the screw and rocking it back and forth very gently a little at a time to see if it will loosen up.

I don't remember what they came stock with,it's been a long time since i've had a stock throttle body.

My Kenne Bell throttle body just has a slotted screw for use with a flat tip screwdriver.

hello people; That screw isn't going anywhere. If the pc. of the TB that the screw goes into is solid and at that thickness I'll be having a high idle for a while. And I think the type of hole is for an allen wrench. I'll keep adding the P oil for a while and maybe i'll get lucky.

Yes, it is a Torx bit screw...

Did you use PBlaster or some other oil? PBlaster is the stuff that should make it work.

If all else fails you can always remove the throttle body and take it to a machine shop and have them remove it and replace the screw.

hello people; The P oil I was using must be 15 years old. You ever heard of Aero Kroil? I think I got it when I was inspector in a mach. shop. I wonder if it has a shelf life? So today I tried to find that P Blaster as recommended. No Go but I got a product by Sea Foam. It read pretty good and at $11.00 I hope so.

Tapping the part that has been lubed will help the oil penetrate. you might need to start the car and let it get up to operating temps to get the part to loosen. PBlaster is available is at autozone.

hello people; SUCCESS I don't know if was the P oil, getting the engine up to temp. or the hammer but it worked. I also was afraid to give it to much muscle as at that point things break. Now to put some anti seize on the shaft and we're in.
But if anyone has a stock TB hanging around I'd like to purchase a mint IAC screw as I mangled mine a little bit. Or we're could a buy a new stock IAC screw?

I'm not so sure I would use anti seize. The vibrations might cause the screw to back out while driving.

hello people; Speaking of backing out. I had that screw out so far as it was not even hitting the throttle cable stop. I can't get the idle in park to be around 800 as TT says. But in gear the idle is about 800. And in park it's like 1200. So I set the IAC screw to just hit the stop and we'll see what happens. And now I can't get the IAC numbers as wanted. I'am like in the 60 top 80 area and my TPS is like 4.4 volts.
I spent the day messing with the screw and playing under the hood. I'am done for today but any advise would be nice.

if its 4.4 at idle then your waaaaayyyy off. Turn key on engine off check with volt meter or scanmaster foot off gas pedal it should be .40- .46 volts. and wot pull the mat from under your gas pedal and floor it key on engine off and it should read 4.55volts to 4.85 volts. If it was a typo then disregard if not then you can find the procedures just search for tps adjusment...

hello people; I'll get back to you tomorrow on that TPS number. I'am probably wrong. I use a OTC scantool and I've had that TPS tech product sold by Kirban for years and it works I think. But it does help in setting the TPS as they where close to each other. The OTC and the TPS tech.

for what it's worth, I tried setting the IAC according to the normal instructions. I couldn't get mine to function correctly no matter how much tuning of the IAC and TPS until I did the following reset proceedure:

Note that the above proceedure is different than the tuning proceedure.

Once I did this, everything else went smooth.

Adjust the tps first and then iac, then double check. Do it after the engine is warmed up.
