trying to set the IAC on a fresh motor... i took this setup off the old motor and cant get the IAC counts right.. I have MSD 50's with a Max effort chip.. will this affect the IAC??? i try and set it with the procedure from GNttype but the screw is all the way in and the counts lowest point were 69 at idle in park and 102 in drive... THIS SUCKS!!! tried the other way too with jumping the ALDL and didnt get any difference.. even took it out and cleaned it but it was a newer part anyway... any ideas??

thanks

"... the screw is all the way in"? The screw you're referring to is the minimum air screw. Turning it in (clockwise when viewed from the rear of the car) opens the throttle blade, allowing more air to enter the motor through it, reducing IAC counts.

When you increase minimum air you may need to lower idle TPS.

Steve likes to see the IAC counts around zero. I keep mine at about 20, for tuning's sake.

thats the problem im having the screw is all the way in and from my understanding the more you screw it in the lower your iac numbers will go.. well its all the way in and the counts are still way too high and also i reset the iac everytime i try and set it

thanks

engine warm, idle 875-900, exactly what the Max effort says it should be and tps is at .45 at idle

Welcome to the IAC Haters' Club...

I'm fighting an IAC problem on my buddy's car as I post. I thought I understood these cars, but I have no idea whatsoever why his car won't cold start, won't warm idle very well, and stalls now and then after part throttle excursions, with IAC counts being all over the place, and EVERYTHING new - TB, IAC, gaskets, hoses, whatever.

I'll be watching this thread with interest...

Good luck!

when I pulled my old one out I messured it and it was over the recomended 28mm? or 31mm?..i forget... anyway which explained why the spring was bound up looking and count was high..i guess:confused: .....figured since it was bound up it wouldnt retract or retract enough

so i pulled spring back, turned the pintle in, re-messured and reset the spring into notch under pintle and it seemed to cure it

I set mine like this. Warmed it up shut it off.Turned screw counterclock wise till it didn't touch then ,turned it in 1 1/2 turns.Set TPS then started it and see where it was.It was at like 6 on my scanmaster and seemed to run fine.Drove it around a hour or so had slight stumble of stop so turned it a 1/8 turn counterclockwise, it sat at 15.Haven't adjusted since.

thanks brian ill try that tomorrow... very aggravating!!! what is this about turning the pintle?? i didnt think i could adjust that... i cleaned it but is that something that i should adjust??? thanks a lot guys
