Been searching for about an hour so excuse the duplicate post if the question had been answered.

I have a Champion ported intake with a port (as it appears) on the front side of the intake either placed there by someone at one time or for other reasons. I was thinking on placing a IAT sensor in this location. so here is the question listing.

1. Do you use a factory sensor from an 87 setup?
2. Anyone that has done this able to log the data effectively
3. I have an 87 ECM, it the wiring as simple as just sending a tan wire to the 11 port on the ECM? Is this port open, or is there an existing wire in the 84 wiring harness?

Thanks in advance!

The 1/8 npt hole on the front DS is factory. Not sure if this is the one you are referring to?

1 - You can.
2 - Yes
3 - Yes and a ground spliced into the ecm ground. No, its empty.

awesome, thanks for the response, and the plug in the front is the one I refer to.

When you mount the IAT in that hole, it will interfere with the temp sensor and one of them has to move, so be careful.

Yes I see this now, and have searched for a picture of where someone may have drilled the hole to put said sensor....cannot find anything. So if someone out there has a picture please post

so the $1,000,000 question. With the intake air temp sensor in that position how did you use a coolant temp sensor as well as the IAT when they are in the way of one another?

I didn't use the idiot light and relocate the temp sensor to the hole under the tstat I believe

I think what a good idea may be to plug the original hole that the temp sender is in. Drill another hole in the boss that is to the right of the current temp sender hole. This will allow room for the IAT sending unit.

Finally got the IAC moved into the correct position above the original coolant sensor location, drilled another hole for the new coolant sensor and ordered an aluminum plug for the hole. All is set.

IAT, sensor is in the spot i had it. I just put the two wire coolant sensor under the tsat in that hole

yea, I thought about that as well, but my VDO temp sensor is already in this location doing well.

Had my auto meter temp sender on the left side hole left of the tstat, where the old heater lines were

this is what i did with mine. my egr is deleted. i installed the sensor where the egr tube entered the back of the intake. i further opened up the passage where the egr passage was ported out had the plug drilled and taped for the sensor
