Ill be converting my 1991 eagle talon over to an AEM standalone, and converting to speed density. Where in my intake pipe should I mount mount the IAT sensor?

Before or after my injection nozzle? (straight methanol with alky control kit)

I think the aem should know the actual intake temp and log and tune with that, but I want to know if anybody thinks theres a reason for putting the sensor before the nozzle.

Theres only two options, but Im not 100% sure which one.

The more I think about this and study, I figure that yes, iat does need to be downstream of any temp changing device (IC MI etc)

Ok, so common sense prevails here. I guess I just needed to type it out!

Any comments or experience would still be appreciated.

I would mount it before the injection point. And here's my reasoning (right or wrong), If you mount it after the injection point, it's going to get spray directly and probably will drop the temp at the sensor to some rediculously low number, far below what's going to end up actually getting into the combustion chamber. The Meth is going to be significantly warmer by the time it goes through the intake valve than it would be just a few inches after injection.
You could even stand a chance of freezing your IAT having right after the injuection point.
On the other hand, having it before the injection point wouldn't yield a very realistic value either.

Maybe if you could mount your IAT (now a MAT since your using SD now) further down the line, somewhere in the intake as far back in the plenum as possible.

Thanks for the reply Dave. Thats what I was thinking of as well.....

The problem of having the iat too close was my concern. It would be such a drastic temp drop if its too close. That would be hard to tune out.....Im thinking.

So, if the nozzle is 6 to 8" from the tb (where it is right now), and I placed the iat in the intake mani, that would allow the air to normalize in temp (Im guessing)

It seems most people prefer the iat in the pipe pre TB, and it seems that some have seen heatsoak problems on intake mani...but then again, this is just internet info. The intake mani may work just fine.

So it looks like 2 options:

1.Move the nozzle farther from the tb, and then place the iat closer to the tb. The most distance at the max I could get is 10"-12"

2.Leave the nozzle where it is right now, and place the iat in the intake mani. Thats sort of where Im leaning now, at least to start.

Thoughts? Any one with 1st hand info?

Mount it after the nozzle. That way you can log IAT and see the meth doing its job. Also you can set timing up so if the IAT starts to increase, start to reduce timing.

The meth wont hurt the sensor.

Thanks guys. After some more research, ill put both the nozzle and iat sensor pre tb and post blowoff valve, and give some distance between them (the iat sensor will be mounted after the nozzle)

Have you worked with AEM system yet Julio?

I was reading a thread on th EVO forums thats talks about setting up the AEM system so it knows when the pump turns on and then switches to the NOS fuel and timing maps (which the user has pulled fuel and increased timing)

Seems like a neat way to do things. It also allows regular fuel and timing maps to be set up like there is no meth. If there is a system failure, or you run out, seems like a good safeguard.

Have you seen any one with this setup?
