if you want to know what the temp is in the plenum
i see you have xfi , if your program makes corrections to fuel based on iat temps than putting in the doghouse or intake would be where you want it

a few classic programs ive seen had no IAT correction so IAT use and placement would only be for logging purposes

stock type chip does little with the iat input... but it is good for logging temps for your cold air kit or or pre/ post intercooler or post alky temps

where would it go?? I was thinking in the back.

I would mount it in the back of the plenum if you can. I have seen some mounted in the intercooler pipe and even seen a guru left it dangling under the car once. The ECU uses this information for calculations so the closest to the intake valve the better.

In the dog house??

Dog house isn't a bad place per se, but it heat soaks real bad!

Probably one of the most ideal placements would be in the up pipe somewhere out in front of the throttle body. Not so much heat soak out there. 3.8" NPT pipe thread is what's needed to thread the IAT into.

If you are talking about a Classic FAST, that is not true. An aftermarket Speed Density system (FAST, BS3, XFI, etc..) uses the IAT sensor for fuel calculations even when the IAT correction table is zeroed out. I don't know why some shops leave it dangling

I feel the heat soak issue in the manifold should/will be accounted for with the IAT mounted in the manifold and should be factored in as that does affect the air temp before it enters the intake runners.

I finish tune my idle when the intake is hot after being up to full operating temp for a while. The idle VE numbers will change if you do not do a final tune up at full temp. It needs more fuel at full temp for whatever reason. At least in my application.

My IAT/MAT sensor is in the back of the doghouse in my plenum spacer.
