I know this is a fairly simple install but I swear I'm cursed or something with this car..if anyone has any time this weekend, I'll gladly pay you.

I wish I was closer. What are you having trouble with? Drop it in, get it lined up with the oil pump drive and connect a cam sensor tool or use a meter to set it, tighten the hold down. You might have to gently persuade it into the oil pump drive by spinning it slowly while applying gentle pressure. Drink another beverage of choice(You're a car guy so this should be a beer) relax and try it again.

Remember working on cars is fun!

Hey TexasT, thanks for the reply. To tell you the truth I'm mainly fed up with messing with it and lost the shim from the old sensor down inside the front cover, no magnet on a stick here and I didn't want to go to town to pick one up, so I let it sit for today. Gear's still in there too. I can't say I'm real confident on getting the motor to the correct part of the stroke and making sure everything lines up. I have no voltmeter to test voltage either. I suck basically and would like some help getting this thing running properly and hauling some ass for once. I spent nearly a years wage last year having the drivetrain built, only to have it left completely untuned and 'untroubleshot', left with a can of worms basically. I'd be thrilled to have some one with more patience than I and expertise on tuning these cars, pay whatever would be worth your time to get this combo working right. This car should be running high 11's in street trim on 93 and I can't even put my foot in it past 8psi.

Tin Man, I pm'd you back. Thanks again.

If it's not your daily I'd let it sit a day or two until you regain the patience. Mine's been idle for ten or so years with a blown HG. I'm working on another engine that is on the stand. I'd love to get it back together but my children and wife take priority. It's just a car.

Yeah, you're right. I'm about to be out of town for a week so that'll take my mind off it lol - thanks , soon I'll have a fun running street car!

"Gear's still in there too.".... How in the world did you do that?? The gear is pinned on the sensor shaft.

The roll pin has disintegrated. There's still a center section of it in the cam sensor shaft, but it's badly cracked and broken away as well.

Sounds to me..

The roll pin has disintegrated. There's still a center section of it in the cam sensor shaft, but it's badly cracked and broken away as well.

as tho the inability to install the sensor, is a "blessing" in disguise.
The ft of that engine needs to be removed, to find out what happened. Starting that engine, with "trash" in it, is NOT something you want to do.
Could be, something went thru the oil pump, and that caused the pin to shear off.
I suggest you find a reputable Buick shop, and let them sort this out..
