The paint booth not the plane. LOL

http://home.hiwaay.net/~sbuc/journal/paint1.html

Finally after years of procrastination and high estimates, I'm gonna paint this sucker myself. I haven't painted a car in years but after a $4000 estimate and no time frame from the latest place the wife finally said OK. Especially when she saw I could get the paint gun, freshair system, painting system and all for under a grand. No huge compressor needed. Plus since its my car, I have a feeling I'll take my time and do an awesome job. After doing the research, I've found that you can do a really good paint job with a stage 4 turbine hvlp system. I'll let you guys know how it goes.

Hey there,

Keep this thread updated. I'd love to see how this turns out.

If someone could come up with a booth like this that's effective and could be broken down in an hour or so, that would be great. I'd build one tomorrow.

Why don't you check around usually there are places that will rent you there booth. I have done this many times and it is typically about $100. Well worth it in my opinion

No place around here close to rent a booth. I would need it longer than a day anyway. Car is going to be totally stripped and reprimed.

Looks good. Have thought about the same thing. I have an article from Car Craft in April of 2001 on building one in your garage. In comparison to that one. You might want to move a little more air. A couple of filters and a couple of fans. CAUTION, with paint products going though the motor on the box fan. Better to have a squirrel cage with motor out of the flow of the potential explosives.

Another big reason I'd like to have the booth is for engine assembly. We typically go through the bottom-end of a motor after every race, so we'd use it 15 - 20 times per year. Having an isolated booth with air that's better than ambient would be nice.

I have one of the HVLP turbine setups and painted my car with it.Turned out nice with no runs.

Only problem I had was I cheaped out and used single stage paint and it orange peeled.I tried wet sanding it out and made it look really bad.I will be re doing it with a basecoat/clearcoat this time.

You should have no problem laying down a decent paint job with yours.
