I'm dead in the water, somebody help!

I currently did the 140 amp alternator upgrade & for some reason the car is not charging. I have already installed 3 different alternators with no luck whatsoever! The first one was definitely wired wrong with the adapter that dorman products makes. I searched on the net & it turns out that i need to run a resistor on the brown wire side of the adapter to line "L". NO LUCK! Car is still not charging! I did read that there should be some kind of resistance in the line coming from my idiot light, I tested & have nothing there. Now i am wondering if it may be that wire giving me problems. I am in real need of advice or tech help here! Is there anybody that has had this problem? Please help!
