The air bag light on my truck has come on and the shop says I need two new front impact sensors. They want $470+tax to repair. Is this something I can do by myself? Where are the impact sensors located.
Thanks
Chad

They should be on the frame rails or center support. What model and year? Be sure to do this correctly! What caused them to fail?

I have no idea why they failed. Having the light on and knowing the air bags do not work really bugs my wife so she had a local shop run the codes. I just called the GM garage and the part is $103 each. They also said they would replace both of them for $300+tax. That sounds a little better. The truck is a 2005 four door.

Check to see if there are recalls on it or push GM to cover it. Unless it's wrecked or has been wrecked, they should never have problems.

I had a '95 impala come in for seat belts that wouldn't retract. AFTER the repair, the owner refused to pay and told the service manager if he was forced to pay, he would file a complaint with the NHTSB. After ten complaints they launch an investigation. He ended up not paying and got his car washed for free that day.

Thanks for your help. I will check into the recalls. Now that you mention a wreck I was rear ended about two years ago. Maybe that has something to do with it.
