I took my car to the track tonight and during my last run the car died. The only things that do work on the car are the head and taillights, interior lights, and buzzer that goes off when you turn the ignition key on. Everything else is completely dead. Right before this happened my O2 volts went to less than 100 and stayed there. Then it pulled code 44 ( lean ). The whole time my car was making a sort of popping sound while idling in Drive. I figure it's one of the wires going to the starter or maybe a ground wire. Any and all help would be appreciated as my car is still at the track in another town and may be towed at any time. Thanks.
 
Sounds like one of the three fusible links has blown. They are behind the passenger head coming from the starter.

Wow, that sucks. Check around the exhaust make sure something didnt touch it and melt and ground you out. Have you changed anything lately that may be the problem?

Check main ground strap. Maybe your motor mounts went and the engine shifted?
 
I'd bet that a fusible link went also. Pull the starter and you'll see the three. One or two will look like a spent piece of charcoal. :(
 
After seeing the first post and consulting with my mechanic, I got under my car ( which I had tried to do last night at the track ) and saw a link, but no fuse..lol. The wire had burned completely off the connection to the starter, but there was another problem. I only saw one connection, but two wires that were just hanging around. After splicing them together and using a new fusible link to connect them to the starter, I only ended up with a completely dead car.. no more lights or anything. The heat of the day and the removal/replacement of the starter led me to call the tow truck and have some mechanics I know take it back off and fix the wires. If not, I probably would have caused more damage than good by removing/replacing the starter again. I just hope they can do this little one hour job by the weekend. :) Thanks to all who replied.
 
EACH of those 3 wires must have a fusible link on it.

They are completely separate circuits.

There are two pages in the service manual that tell you how to properly repair and splice in new fusible links.

Then there is the heavy duty battery cable that also goes to the solenoid.

Also follow and check the negative battery cable to make sure it is intact.
 
I got my step-dad's friends working on it as we speak. I should have her home by tomorrow.....and with some Xylene still in the tank I will figure out why I couldn't build more than 3 lbs. of boost on launch and no more than 5 from 1st and halfway through second gear. The only time I could get 20 psi was once in 3rd gear when I turned my adj. knob up very quickly. She pulled like mad and I only got 0.9 degrees of knock the whole run, while running very rich. All my boost problems, running too rich ( lowest reading of the night was in the 840s ) and letting off a little past the 1/8 mile mark is what made me run in the 14s all night. It was embarrassing until I saw why I was running such slow 1/4 mile times. My mph had dropped from 20-30 mph from the 1/8 mark to the 1/4 mark, but ironically, this is when the boost finally came on and it pulled the hardest. Next time out I'll run until I see the end of the road..lol. Thanks again for all your help guys.
