Thinking of building a bracket/street car.I know there are easier cars but I don’t want a camaro or a mustang.:rolleyes:We are considering 6-8 races a year with 8 passes per event for a total of 80 runs max per season on the high side 40-60 would be more likely:rolleyes:. We are thinking of the index classes 10.90 pro tree heads up no delay or throttle stops or just local brackets.I would also like to do 1 Buick event each year.With this in mind a board member once said build a 9 sec car and run 10’s and stuff will live longer.:wink:This will still be a street car as I don’t want a race only car.I am thinking of buying or building a 9 sec capable car with a 6 point bar for safety is my daughter will be driving.Some ideas so far:confused:
1) 2 step stock ignition
2) Chip and alchy
3)Tranny brake?
4)Fiberglass hood and bumpers
5)light weight seats
6) weight savings without making the car look like a race car
7)109 block with good internals
8) Tranny?
9) 10 bolt rear with axles,c clip eliminators and diff cover
10)Stock susp with HR bar

Okay guys any ideas or criticism I am all ears,thanks for any and all

Definately the 9 sec buy would be much cheaper than building one. Be prepared to spend some money for the good stuff.
 
From what I've seen to be competitive in an index class you really have to cut a good light and run the index, both of which are harder with a turbo than without (as much as I love these cars I had to say it :-)). Alcohol injection is great if you do a lot of street driving because it can save a ton of money over race gas, but it is one more system to keep tuned up so if you don't "need" to go fast on the street I'd use race gas just for the simplicity and consistency (or race gas at the track and alky on the street but that means retuning before each event). At most Buick events I've been to the bump for the Quick 16 is right about 10.0 - it was 10.30 at Cecil last weekend and about that at BPG this summer, high 9's at BPG either last year or year before last. Just mentioning that if you want to build the car so if you turn it some more you can step up a class :-). Oh, the Q16 and brackets (duhh) are all bracket racing. The only heads up pro tree classes are TSM, TSO, THS, and the like, and the car as you plan it won't really fit in any of those. If you don't make a lot of WOT shifts on the street a well-built 200-4R should last a few years at the number of track passes you expect, but if you are like a friend of mine who has to go WOT at least a few times a day you'll get a few months out of each 200-4R rebuild and you might as well go straight to a TH400 :-).
 
I agree and am willing to buy a proven car and tweak from their.I would also buy a roller or partial project and finish.:confused:I have all of next season to think this through as my daughter has one more season of Jr. dragsters.I never thought about the alchy vs race gas for consistancy:eek:Thanks for the responses.
