Installed new intake gasket, but i think i goofed....

I went to advance auto parts to get the seal ms96033, i think it was. that last numbers were 33. But, it came with the blue seal, then the two black strips that go on the front and rear of the engine, and came with some rvt sealant. Now, i used that on the head and intake side for the water passages. My dad said today he just looked in there and saw there was a small paper in there saying to put it on the small black strips. We didnt. Now is this a bad thing where we need to take it off, and correct this??????

One more thing, he said there was also another seal in there, i guess rectangular. I dont know, i havent seen it. But PLEASE shead some light on this for me.

im sure someone here can help me out. ive only got a couple hours before i start putting the turbo on. id like to know if i should fix it or not before i start.

I own a parts store & opened a MS96033 to see what you've got. You're O.K. The black rtv was to be used ONLY where the rubber end seals meet the blue pan in the four corners. The paper specifies that the end seals must be installed dry (w/the exception of these 4 small dabs). It may seep out of the corner without the rtv...don't know . The rectangular gasket is the one used on the vacuum block on the intercooled cars on top of the throttle body.

Thanks for helping out. I still really am not sure as to whether or not i should take this off, and get another, and use the rvt sealant on those black strips. What do you meen by the four corners where it meets the blue pan? I only put the rvt on the heads where the water journals were, and on the intake side also.

PLEASE help me out real quick again, as im about to go start on it.

The black strips are going to straddle the front and back of the block between the cylinder heads and will meet the blue tray gasket at each end of the black seals. That is where the rtv would go - just a small dab - they give you WAY more in the tube than you will use. You dont want to coat the black seals with rtv! I really don't think you hurt yourself at all by applying a hopefully small film of rtv around the water ports, as they are generally a little pitted from age anyways.

Is it a bad thing that i didnt put the rvt on the ends of the black strips? Do i need to take it off, and put some on there? IM gguessing the seal isnt reusable once i take it back off.

well that is where it is most likely to have a vacuum leak. if you don't redo it i would at least dab some in the corners, but it would be hard to do the rear.

Yeah, we took it off, and just put a whole new seal in, and put the rvt sealant in the corners of where the black strips went, and then when we put the seal on, we put a little more in the corner just to make sure. I think that should take care of it.
