I have been meticously trying to take the weigh off of the front end of my car to make it handle better. (aluminum hood, custom bracket to remove p/s and a/c and even get rid of the aluminum accessory bracket itself (saved 14lbs total from a/c pulley delete setup). So I took the plunge and got the turbobuicks.com LT1 starter to shave more weight off.

It looks so small next to the stock GN starter..... but I guess aluminum construction and gear reduction is the trick. 10lb weight savings.... blamo!

Car is an '87 Mazda RX-7 (2725lbs) with a GN drivetrain. Has stock bottom end, Champion heads, 218R cam, ATR headers, TH TTA 3" DP, 3.5" mandrel bent exhaust into Dynomax Magnum muffler, 009's, Spearco FMIC, 62mm TB, stock D5, and a few other mods..... with the stock turbo for now (goal is 11.20's@119mph on the stock turbo).

Anyway..... just making this post to say it sounds sooooo different.... but works well. My stock starter started the car quicker.... (sounds weird to say it).... but this one works just as well and starts on the 2nd or 3rd crank. 10lbs less to boot!

Just saying next time you need to replace your starter.... or are becoming anal and want more weight off of the front end.... get the LT1 starter from turbobuicks.com. Good buy.

The coilover suspension on my car also shaved off 10lbs and it handles crazy!

Bye for now,

Trying to save weight off of a RX-7.... Must be nice.;) I would love to see my buick around 3400 let alone 2700. The starters are a very nice piece.
Matt:cool:

My buddy bought one and put it on at the Nats. More than a few people said it sounded like a Dodge now.

Rick, Tell Terry that I will buy his starter if he is not happy with it.:D

See you guys in Bristol!

Hehee, after all he went through, (car stopped at front parking area, going shopping for a starter after Ray verified the symptoms, acquiring tools(thanks Chris!!), going to Bob Slussers Pit area to beg for jack and stand, dragging aforementioned equipment back to the front parking lot, finding out that the crosspipe does in fact need to come off (after many expletives coming from under Terry's car), putting it all back together and returning borrowed stuff to all the rightful owners.) Me being the optimist thinking what better place for this to happen?? Terry not having quite that positive of an outlook.
I really like the starter but it does sound different. Whether you like the sound or not is just a matter of opinion. I tend to worry more about the sounds being made AFTER the starter.
