Installed a Perma cool oil cooler, part # 771-2315 (Jegs). It has 5/8 tubing, and 3/8 npt fittings. I run a turbo saver kit from PTE. I ran one line from "out" on the front cover adapter, to the filter head, out from the filter head to the oil cooler inlet, then out of the cooler into the front cover adapter inlet again. I'm sure its piped right, but I have one basic concern: The cooler instructions say to use a minimum 1/2" hose, which I have, but the fittings are 3/8 NPT? The openings in the fittings are obviously going to be smaller than 1/2". I had the local hydraulic hose shop make me some lines. I guess my only concern is the restriction at the fittings. If its so important to use 1/2" hose, why are the fittings 3/8"? Its only going to flow as much as the smallest passage will allow it to.

Nothing to worry about Sam - the passages in the block are WAY smaller than that ;)

Boy I get tired of hearing that... That statement is so untrue. I can see how on the surface it appears to make sense, but it's really not correct. If you are trying to figure out how to make something flow more, then yes, use that statement to figure out where to start. But don't use it for anything more than that.

A length of 1/2" line with 3/8" fittings will flow more than 3/8" line with 3/8" fittings.
