If I install a stiffer relief valve spring, will this give me more oil pressure at idle? Or is this just at the higher pressures? Thanks

paul

no.....a stiffer spring will not increase your oil pressure at idle ..car hot(160*+)...you can drill& tap the (cap screw) that holds the spring on the pump...put a 1/4-28 and have all the stiffer spring you want!...but it wont help if you hve lost the clearance stack-up of the engine bearings! hope this helps myo2 joe:confused:

pressure relief is max pressure nothing to do with low pressure.

if you want more at idle you need to either rebuild motor to tighter specks or install a hv pump kit

If you're not ready to rebuild your engine, just install a hv pump. They cost about $35. Or, even easier, if you're running a very light oil such as 10-30, you can mix in some heavier stuff on your next oil change to bring up your oil pressure, such as 4 qts of 10-30 or 40 and 2 1/2 qts of 50w. There is no rule that says you must run 10w-30.

TA Performance sells and adjustable oil bypass regulator. I run this on my cover. Same basic spring setup but with a set screw going through the middle to adjust tension on the spring to raise or lower oil PSI.

Use a booster plate. Installs between pump cover and pump housing. Very effective, fairly easy to install, and cheap.

Of course simply tightening the clearance between the oil pump and pump cover will help too. You do that with a thinner gasket.
