First time I've removed the intake...

What steps do I need to take to avoid having coolant dripping down into the valley and mixing with the oil during intake removal? Obviously I will drain the radiator at least below the level of the upper hose, but is there anything else I can do? Will the heater hoses, throttle body coolant lines, etc all drain out when I let some coolant out of the system?

if i can i'll raise the rear of car to get the coolant to drain more from the block
best is to flush the entire system with water , then if there is a little spill it will evaparate

and after draining there will only be a little spillage when you remove the hard line from the intake , just put some rags there when you break it loose

i also drill a small hole in top and bottom of my thermostats which helps to drain the intake and upper rad hose and also speeds up refilling

Alright I already drained most of it but tomorrow morning I will raise the rear of the car to help gravity along.

Worst case scenario will a couple of drops that make it through be a concern or just make sure to change the oil when finished?

Too late for a flush as the car was already taken apart for other work so no way to get the cooling system circulating. Just raised the rear of the car and drained as much as I could.

Just finished pulling the intake and there is a bit of coolant in the valley that I will soak up. I'll pour clean oil down in the valley and on the lifters, change the oil before running the car, and hope for the best.

Yeah I'm certainly hoping so. I will also be replacing vacuum lines, found a few small leaks there. Was hoping to be finished in a day or two but it's snowing and cold again in Chicago so not sure if I'll be in the garage tomorrow.
