I'm going to be running a basically stock 87 Gn motor in my Vega.Want to put a front mount intercooler in the car.Can someone give me rough dimensions.Don.t want to go to big and kill the turbo.I want to upgrade turbo later down the road so i'd like to build it big enough for that also.Any comments are welcomed!!

Going big on the intercooler will not affect the turbo at all much less kill it. I would go with a powerstroke intercooler if you can get it to fit as they are proven into the 10's and can be installed for about $3-400 with parts and install. Drew

I'm ignorant at this stuff so please bear with me,I was told if i went to big on the intercooler taht the turbo would not be able to push the air threw and would want to stall the turbo(lots of lag)
Thats why i'm here talking with all you experts. That have been there and done that.

I'm also limited on space.About 24x19 and about 3 1/2 to 4 inches thick.
Do you have the dimensions on a power stroke intercooler?

Your information may just be correct.

You can get part throttle surging and bad drivability from a front mount and long tubing with smaller turbos.

I don't run one but have read about it so you might want to hear from someone that's had that combo for the details.

Old school Kenne-Bell "big boy" is a smallish front mount you might consider.

Old school by today's standard huge ones but just might be perfect and even cheap to get ahold of for your car.

Don't have the dimensions of that model but a search on the internet might find it.

Perhaps even a stock GN intercooler or a stretch stock location could be front mounted cheap enough, don't forget the big neck option for it.

There's a good hybrid section on another board, Turbo, buicks .com

Use the search feature on all the boards to look for dimensions.

Good luck. :)

I've been searching.Lots of reading.I also like posting get a wide range of ideas to do more searching like the Big neck option.
Thanks Kevin

I have run small turbo's with huge front mounts before and had no negative effect what-so-ever. There is however, some validity to the lag comment although it is basically un-noticible maybe 50-100 RPM's at most to pressurize the extra volume. I had a buddy with a stock turbo on a T-type and a PTE front mount that worked flawlessly. I also had a twin turbo supra with stock twins and a huge Greddy front mount and had no problems with it. I always run the largest intercooler I can fit in a given space and don't worry about it. I have never had any problems doing this nor have I had to ever upgrade. Drew

I think he will do fine if he finds something that fits his 24 x 19 criteria. :)

Plenty of used Eastern, early CAS, PTE, and stretch examples out there to pick from.

I think any good used part seller would be able to accurately measure them up and provide good data for the inlet and outlet fittings and sizes for him.

Thanks guys i'm taking in as much information as i can.Want to do this once and do it right!
