Intermittent Code 22

I've been getting an intermittent code 22 about halfway through my trip to work (~15 mins into the trip). The "Service Engine Soon" light comes on and goes off and comes on and goes off.

I cleared the codes tonight and idled it for awhile, and, of course, no code. I know that the next time I drive to work it will set the code again, though. My TPS and IAC are set correctly . . . what do I check now?

Although the TPS may be set correctly, you may have a dead spot in the TPS, which is causing the SES light to turn on and off...

If the SES light comes on at part throttle again, try to figure out if it seems like it's at the same throttle position each time...You may need to backprobe the TPS wiring with an analog volt-ohmmeter and sweep the throttle open slowly with ign key on, engine off and see if the volt-ohmmeter needle drops to zero at any point in the sweep...

It has to be an analog volt-ohmmeter...The digital ones don't react as quickly, or you won't see the drop-off on the digital screen...

Malfunction code 22
Typical causes for this code include:
1) Maladjusted TPS
2) Defective TPS
3) No +5 volt reference to TPS
4) TPS-return to ECM is shorted to ground or to sensor ground
5) Defective ECM

You may need to verify 2 as stated earlier, and then 3 - 5.
Could have a broken wire somewhere that sets the code when you hit a bump.
Do you know someone you can swap the ECM with?

I normally get a code 22 while driving, but the other day I was also getting it while I was idling in the driveway. It was idling really high (because of the code, I think?). That would lead me to believe it isn't a single deadspot in the TPS?

Anyway, I have the day off today, so I'll test a few things and see what I can come up with.

I don't know anyone that I can swap an ECM with. Are there any other cars that I can get an ECM from and just change the chip? Or is there anyone that sells ECMs for the hotairs?

Probably right. Your TPS setting is critical for the operation and it may be high enough where it thinks it is a bad TPS. What did you set your base at?
I bet the idle is really high?

The 87 compters will for but you need a few other things. Do a search on this or look under www.GNTTYPE.org.

Today when I started it up it was throwing code 22, so I performed the steps in the troubleshooting flowchart in the GM Manual. According to the steps, and the results that I got, it should be a bad TPS.

I also checked for 5V at the sensor and checked the ground at the sensor, both were fine.

Called a couple of places for the sensor. They said there were two different ones . . . one for $27 and another for $150. Any thoughts on what the difference may be? What is a good brand of TPS to get (other than AC/Delco --- I already know that one is $195!!).
