About 10 yrs ago I bought a built 2004R from one of the well known transmission gods (will remain nameless) because I didn’t want to blow my orig transmission up. The transmission he sold me lasted 50 miles. 1-2 shift and R is all it had. He walked me though steps to try and fix it. He ended up sending me a replacement unit after a wait which lasted months.

Unit #2: ..2015 or so…. There is an intermittent buzzing in Park with this replacement unit. I had to change out the governor to get the transmission to work correctly. I believe I had to take the one out of my stock unit.

Unit 2 today: ,2,000 miles later and haven’t been down the 1/4mi yet. Trans has 1-2 and starts off in 2 unless I go to N at a stop. Fluid looks new. TV adj correctly.

It’s been 10 yrs so getting on the phone with this guy is useless. …IF you can get him on the phone. It was tough 10 yrs ago.

I’m at my wits end at this point.

Hi Steve, Dave Husek did mine, you are welcome to test drive it. It is awesome. It is tough to drop that kind of coin and have it not work, but if you give it to Dave it will turn out right. Plus Dave always picks up the phone or promptly returns your call.

At this point you might want to send the car to a pro like Dave etc so they can go through it while in the car and make it right, then send you it all back 100% approved.

I forgot if Dave H was in NY or FL now or a combo of both at times, I talked to him last year.

Believe his home base/shop is on the Island of Long.

Just went for another drive. My test road is around and around the uptown state campus and 85 down to Slingerlands and back to the campus. 1-2-3-4 but no lockup. All seemed ok. Then only 1-2-3.
Now on the way home only 1-2 with up shift from 1-2 at 3,000rpm light throttle.

Transmission problems are the best,I’ll tell ya

After I fried a 200r4 my trans builder (Michael’s Transmission in Atco) took my greasy $200 craigslist- find Th400, rebuilt it for about $1200, and told me to try and break it. 15 years later I’m still trying! I don’t miss the overdrive.

Start with simple then you might need to add some more data sensors for the future...

Fluid level good?
Trans temps?

I added a trans cooler with fan to rule that out on clutch life and it's usually 150-160 even after 40 minutes of driving with a PTC 9.5".

I am about to add a 300psi trans pressure sensor so I can keep track of that in case things get annoying like you're seeing.
If you keep it, try to add as much data info as you can afford so you don't go bald pulling out your hair on techs guessing at $175 an hour.

Looks like Dave is still in NY, try to get him the car.

I have PTSD from dropping my GN at a Turbo Buick specialist up here in the northeast many years ago. . I made an appt and dropped the car off. After 7 months of promises and excuses I drove out there to find out what is going on. I actually walked right by my GN thinking the car I saw was an abandoned parts car. Grass grown up around it. Bird shz all over it and someone blew grass clippings all over the drivers side for months and actually hit it with the mower scraping the door. My GN has show quality paint and interior.

Their excuse?…. There are a lot of black cars here. We lose track of them every now and then.

I will never bring by car to a distant location and drop it off ever again. Btw,I had to repaint the drivers side.

I put a huge transmission cooler in when I threw in a new radiator. I don’t plumb the transmission through the radiator. Level is good. Amsoil fluid.

This transmission has done this before a few months ago then magically fixed itself overnight.

Sending the car to LI is not something I’d do. If anything I’d send the transmission there. Not the car, tho.

Dave is in long Island.
We are in the Hudson Valley area
Pm me if your serious
We can also speak on the phone.

Take your car to Mr Spool , he is just south of you near Poughkeepsie NY . They do only one car at a time so nothing is sitting around , plus just talking with him and fellow racers is very informative . On my car they did the Holley ECU & Pro Dash install and a custom 36-1 tooth crank trigger .

I here ya on the shop PTSD, that's a rough one, they needed a nice bill to cover your body issue, just small claim court them and the places will start to show more respect to your property.

Mr.Spool might've just saved you the trouble, check out his place and maybe you found a new reliable GN friend.

I just had the damage fixed and vowed never to use them again. Too long of a distance to be fiddling with lawyers and small claims.

I’ll be calling Mr Spool tomorrow. I do most work myself but when it comes to needing a lift I cave. Ever since I took the body off of the frame by myself in a cold, crammed garage with only scissors jacks and blocks I said never again.

Here’s an update on my erratic 2004R

Towed it to a transmission shop to have them drop the pan and VB and look at the throttle valve plunger to see it it’s stuck or whatever and to do a pressure test.

📞 “We’ve got the pan down. Lots of debris. No need to go further. It needs to be rebuilt.”

I was nearby and dropped in unannounced. I looked in the pan. Pan and remaining fluid looked clean except for one piece of something. “That’s clutch material. Trans is wasted.” I grabbed the piece and told them to put the pan back on. Go no further. I will pick up.

That piece of “clutch material”??? This sure looks like a piece of gasket!!

People wonder why I PTSD about repair shops…..
