ah yes adaware! works great most of the time,

but i have the same issue as you.

i was browsing through the porn one night:p
when sudently i was bombarded with popups that just wouldnt stop. got so bad i had to turn off the computer and restart because it was freezing the screen.

now i have gotten rid of most of the junk that got on the computer w/ adaware, but every so often the browser will change back to the wierd "Easy-Search.com" crappy browser that dosent let me go to google, yahoo or any other site.

i have run adaware many times as well as mcafe. i always find viruses and crap and deleet it, but it never fixes the browser switch problem.

so a reminder to all of you:

DONT LOOK AT PORN ON THE NET:mad:

I HATE that crap--twice in the last month now, from out of nowhere I get these cute "search" dropdowns in my browser--how do they get there?? And how do we strangle the assholes responsible for PUTTING them there???

And they ARE a total pain to remove! My stepson knows how to do it, I need him to tell me what he does....

I had similar problems before. It's called browser hi-jacking (I think). I used ad-aware and it found the culprit, but there was a file installed on my computer that re-installed the problematic files at every start up. Ad-Aware did nt find that. I then found some better software, one was called "hijack this" and the other is called "spybot search and destroy". "Hijack this" worked the best, that's how I found out about the other files.

You should also use a utility program (i.e. system mechanic, Norton, etc) to see if any bad operations run at start up. Just do a search for browser hijacking, or something similar and you will find all the info you need to remove that crap.

Run ad-aware first - be sure to do the updates!

Then run a program called spybot. It has a neat little feature - not only does is remove the ad/spyware like ad-aware does, it will allow you to "immunize" against known threats. It puts little crumbs on your machine so the spyware programs think they are already installed on your machine. It will also disable the Microsoft "features" which allow spyware programs to hi-jack your browser.

But, in my experience, with some spyware, ad-aware is much cleaner about removing the stuff, so run that FIRST. Then run spybot, do the updates, and then do the 2 items on the immunize page. Your browser will thank you...

Might I recommend this, http://www.spychecker.com/program/hijackthis.html

I use it and it's fantastic. This gets what adaware doesn't. I use both, but be careful. This will get everything, some items are important from legitimate software that your computer uses. I run it and look for screwy things to show up. Everything is listed by software or company so anything strange.. see ya later. I've used it on other peoples pc's and it's gotten rid of stuff that been bugging them for a while.

I have run adaware and then done a system restore to a previous date when I didn't have issues. That seemed to work on some junk stuff that wouldn't die.

hijack this

hey thanks for the above link!

i tried it out. i was very careful not to deleet things that i didnt know what they were.

USE THE "INFO" button if you are not sure.

i found a bunch of files that change the IP of certain sites so that when ever i would type in "www.yahoo.com" or google or somthing, it would take me to the same unknown search site that i think one of the porn demons installed on my computer.

i also got the bastard bug that was getting my browser to come up as "easy search dot com" every time my computer restarted.

thanks guys!!!

Norton Internet Security works great for me:D

I did turn off the Anti-Spam and Productivity controls as it would actually block some good porn sites:eek: that I didn't want it to:D.

It also blocks the vendor ads on this and other sites:rolleyes: but that can be turned off for each site.

Glad to here that link helped you out KillrV6, there's nothing more anoying that to do something online and have all this cr@p bombard your computer. As long as they find a way to make browsing the internet annoying, I'll be out there looking for ways to stop'em
