I'm looking for a 2004r for a street rod project and found a '84 Monte Carlo SS tranny. Is this a good one to build? Does it have better stuff than the other (non-turbo) trannies?

84 monte carlo ss did not originally come with the 2004r trans, it came with the turbo 350c. It wasn't til 85 that the monte carlo came with the 2004r. Unless it came from a donor car or the car you got is a 85-88. Check out www.montecarloss.com for more info about your monte.

Thanks for the tip. That saves me a trip to look at the car that's being parted out.

For future reference(if anyone cares) 86-88 200-4r cores are the best, and MCSS 200-4rs are good....stock they can handle more than a *plain jane* 200-4r. Not as good as the TR ones but the MCSS/442s are still solid.
