when you go to the double roller or is it simply maintenance. I will have the intercooler cleaned at the same time.

Just curious.

I have heard nothing but bad things concerning and roller t-chain setup. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure it frees up a few ponies, but if it can't have a tensioner on it, the chain stretching after awhile will only loosen up and retard your cam timing. And if it gets stretched so far that it starts to rattle, you gotta do alot of work to change it out again. Or worse yet, jump time.

Don't do it. Rollers have also been tied to false knock readings. Plenty of people here go mighty fast with stock chains and cams.:D

Well I tend to disagree. My double roller has worked perfectly and no false knock or excessive noise in a 107,xxx mile stock motor. I put it in the same time I swapped valve springs ( 2 years ago ) and never looked back. Mid 11's and getting faster. JMHO

Donnie is right in one respect, there have been many success stories using the roller chain setup.
However there are plenty more stories that are not so successful.

All I know is this. There are alot of people on this board that have tons more experience with these cars than I.
I will usually go with the majority on these issues.
It just seems that the stock parts ( if you can get them ) work better to a point.

BTW: Donnie, I also have a double roller on of my GNs with no issues.:D

Later:cool:

Sealed Power makes a nice flat back, double roller for our cars[I just put one in a month ago, wiped cam.].It fits like a glove and allows the use of the stock tensioner.I forget the P/N,but it shouldn't be tough to find.

I've had many problems with stock style breaking tensioners so I went back to d/r but there is a difference in d/r's I got a rollmaster this time its a very nice chain and has billet gears not cast gears like the others I've used

tensioner has nothing to do with timng retard it cuts down on slap on the loose side of the chain so as chain stretches the cam is retarded

NOT Stock

I don't remember anybody recommending the stock combo. If you don't want a roller, go with the stock-type chain, but use a metal sprocket, not the one with the plastic teeth. It's cheap, too.

Wonder if anyone makes a gear drive setup for our cars? No worry of stretched chains and no need for a tensioner. They can be noisey though.

With gear drive we could have a whine and a whistle. Now that would really initmidate. :D

I KNOW that gear drives can cause false knock on certain cars. Something to consider. Although I will agree, whine and whistle would sound cool.

I have had experience with both stock and double roller chain. Couldnt tell a difference with either one that I can remember.
However, I have been told that the nylon gear (stock setup) is of benefit against false KR. Something about vibration resonating through cam back to sensor with the metal gear, I think.
Also, I know that it is a no-no to put the tensioner on with double roller, it will eat it up.

My bad,I think the kit was a Speed Pro.They sell a kit called a "Speed Kit" that includes the chain, gears and cover gasket set.It is flat backed to allow for the use of the stock tensioner.
