I just removed the pump from my transmission in order to get a stuck TCC valve out.
I could tell there was a little bit more metal bits laying around in the tranny and pump than I would have liked to have seen. Upon further inspection, I found that there were very obvious grooves worn in to both sides of the housing where the oil pump rotor sits. It is significantly worse on the side opposite of the pump slide. I also noticed that the pump body bushing bushing was kinda chewed up... I dont know if its like an engine bearing in that it turns copper color when it gets worn. If it is, then its not to that point yet, but there are definate chew marks on it.
So my questions are: how bad is too bad when it comes to these grooves, and secondly, what would cause the pump rotor to grind these grooves, third, how bad is it to have a somewhat chewed up pump body bushing, and finally, do I need to just get a new pump, and if so, do I need to get anything else new or inspect any other parts?
This is a pretty new tranny, like less than 10k miles so its not wear from long term use
