Recently when tidying up various things under the hood, i noticed that the stock turbo bracket was holding up my te-44 by only one nut. The bracket doesn't fit correctly, the studs are hitting the exhaust housing. To remedy this i had to remove the exhaust housing. When dooing this a bunch of black crusty stuff came out from behind the sheetmetal cover behind the turbine wheel. I assume this is burned oil that leaked through the seal. I didn't see any signs of burned oil inside the bearing area.
Can it be rebuilt? I am a fairly competitent mechanic, is it somthing i could do myself? If not, who do i send it to?
Also, I have been reading some other posts and I am under the impression that the te-44 is more of a street turbo, is it possible to upgrade to somthing better suited for the track?

thanks,
george

Pretty much any turbo can be rebuilt. I wouldn't recommend trying to fix by yourself, because they need to be balanced, they spin retarded fast. I don't really know where to send it, but I would ask Bruce at Aggressive Auto. They always helped me out in the past. If you are thinking of upgrading a rebuild may be waste, then again you may find someone that will pay decently for a good used 44
