I've bought a few items (Engine Block, Decals, weather stripping, etc.) from Brian but does anyone one hereknow if the item in the link comes with everything I need? do I just buy this, bolt it up, (obviously I'd fill it with fluid), and drive or do I need to buy a differential. Hope I stated the correct terminology so please correct me if I haven't. Also, if this isn't the correct forum to ask this question please let me know. I wasn't sure if this should be in the suspension forum.

I've been doing some reading and I rather do it once and right even if its going to cost me money. I plan on going low 11's high 10's and if I'm lucky mid 10's. I was going to buy moser axles and plug them into my stock housing assembly but from what I've read (mixed reviews) I'm not sure if this is the correct way to go about it so I'm enquiring about the 9" rear.

Guru's please chime in.

For that price you need a complete carrier (gears, bearings, differential, case, pinion support, yoke, bearings), you will also need brakes and brake lines, and depending on which brakes you go with a proportioning valve. Currie enterprises as well as quick performance can sell you a complete bolt in kit.

That doesn't include the center section like Raeban said. Might be better off calling Moser or Quick performance.

for low 11's high 10's,1.5 60fts,28/30 spline axles and an eaton posi on your rear should be fine.

ok thanks for the lesson. I have a text message going with quick performance. I would prefer to go with a TB support vendor though (i'm not sure if they are a TB supported vendor). Mr. Spool so my stock housing will be fine? i just need to buy the moser axles and eaton posi's and use my stock axles? Mike from quick performance put together a package for me (31 spline axles, ford 9Inch, disk brakes or drum brakes, eaton posi) for about 2.5K. i rather spend the money and do it right. So should i just use my stock housing, purchase 28 spline moser axles, purchase an eaton posi unit total spent about $800 to 1K or....go with the quick pefomrance package (complete package for 2.5K). if the cheaper option will do the trick i'd rather do do that. i've been on this board for a while but im far from a SME. i just found out what an axle shaft was 2 weeks ago. Now if anyone ever needs any microsoft office advice, im your man. Thanks in adcance for the guidance and info.

If you want to run "legal" at the track you will need some sort of axle retention added to the stock setup. IIRC the IHRA & NHRA times are 10.99 ET and faster but as always it depends on your track officials. Keep in mind at these ETs you are looking at a roll bar as well so it is worth considering how often you intend to race at the strip. As far as retention goes, most people who run the C-Clip eliminator setup have leaks or will have leaks if they use it on the street much. Swapping to the ford ends is good, but then requires the brake upgrade and if you are having the ends put on I would recommend they are done in a jig to make sure they are square. In the long run, the quick performance 9" is the way to go especially if you are tackling the install yourself and have limited experience.

If you go with the the Ford 9" use a Wavetrac posi.

If your budget allows(and it sounds like it does) a nine inch should be all you will ever need. I'd do the qp deal and never look back.
That said, an 8.5 with 30 spline axles can take a LOT of abuse. Plenty of em out there running what you want to.
