2002 LS1 + T56, out of a WS6. 25,000 miles.
$3400.
Assuming is is in good shape and complete, what do you guys think? Looking for one for my '59 Bel Air.

New ones cost about the same for just the motor. I would call that a good deal. But FYI a gen2(lt1) small block will easily make the same power(with just a cam) and is a lot closer to the gen1 sbc making the swap much easier.(like you really care)

The LS1 is the way to go.... no matter what you do you will always get more power with it compared to other engines with same mods.

the 02 engine is the best ...35% chance of having an ls6 block, ls6 style intake.

We did a conversion to a 61 impala.... the 01/02 exhaust manifolds are the only that really fit. There is a company in TX that makes awesome wiring harnesses (not painless...do not go painless).

$3,400 is a good price for an LS1. a built shortblock 346 is around $2,899. The going price is more like $4,500 for what you are looking for.

There is nothing terribly difficult about the swap at all.

Jon

If I end up getting it I am sure I will have a few questions for you Jon We4. I've tried to find someone on chevytalk.org that has done this swap in an X frame, but no one has chimed in yet. What tranny did you guys use? And are you still using the old 8.2? Let me know if you don't mind me asking you questions about this swap, cause I've got a million.

Hey slow87, whare have you seen new engines for that price? The new crates I've seen are at best $6000.

S&P sells adapter plates to bolt a LS1 into any SBC engine bay. around $100 i think. my dads selling a LS1 longblock he probably let go for around $2K but it had not accesories or accesory brackets. it would also need wiring harness and a tranny.

it has a 99LS1 and 4l60E transmission, other than that its a stock 61 Impala. We acctually just did the catback...and we will be doing the brakes/suspension soon.

We have a nicer 70 corvette with a LS1 and a 4 speed ... its really nice :D

ls1 pricing

My price book from Salee chevrolet. Its for basically a long block thats why its so low. A complete(electronics, computer, accessories) ls6 goes for almost 8 grand.
-edit-
John we4-I was saying that with just a cam a lt1 would out do a stock ls1. If you were building it up thats a different story.

Bet that Vette is pretty nice.

Just power isn't my main concern. Power in a car that big just breaks stuff. And the LT1 make great power and drops in to boot. I just think an LS1 in a '59 Bel Air would be really smooth. Just want a good driver, and either engines are perfect candidates.
Thanks UNGN for the link. And thanks turbo buicks, but I think I would be ahead of the game if I got in on this deal.

Hey jon_we4, being that the tranny surface of the block is flush with the cylinder banks (I think), did this cause any concerns with firewall clearance? And what is the VATS. Air temp?

if VATS in the newer Vettes is anything like the VATS in my dad 87 its the Vehicle Anti Theft System.
