Ive loved the 80's regal body since I was a kid, and have only owned 1 GN in my day. A 85 non intercooled. That was back in 01. I regretfully had to sell it.

I came across a clean black regal T in this guys driveway with a for sale sign about 3 days ago. I talked to him for a bit, opened the hood, and saw a 305. :(

The question is, did the T ever come original with a v8? Was it an option in 87? I really couldnt beleive it. Ive seen a WE4 in person, and have never seen a 87 regal T claimed to be original. He swore it was and for some reason I thought he was full of it

Shed some light?

Yep you could get a 305 in a T package. Some people thought they were faster. After all it is a V8

Actually I think it is probably a 307 Olds engine. That was the only v-8 offered in the Regal line that year. As far as the T, it did not stand for turbo as most people think. It is for the sport touring suspension package that was available on any Regal. I'm not sure if the v-8 T's are counted in the numbers commonly posted for '87 model year Turbo-T's because it usually lists the numbers as "T types" with no mention of engine size. I think the turbo engine was also available in the base Regal, maybe with out the T suspension, but I'm not 100% on that.

So the V8 T-type was infact a very rare car compared to the 3.8T.

He only wants 2 grand for it. And its Cleeeeean.

Yep, In 87 you could get the "T" package with the Olds 307 V-8.

Stupid question for you Canadian guys. Down here in the states the V-8 of choice for the Regal and Cutlass,as far 86 & 87 go, was the Olds 307. Now as far as I know and going by what the GM parts catalog tells me you hosers got the 150HP 305 Chevy instead of the 307 in your Regals and Cutlass's. Has any one seen a 87 "T" with the SBC and did your version of the 442 have the HO(high output)180HP 307 or did it also have the 305 SBC? I have seen a few Canadian spec Regals and Cutlass's in the boneyards down here(140KPH speedos anyone?) and they do indeed have the SBC. Sounds like a bummer if your Olds performance car had the Chevy in it though. I dont recall ever seeing a Canadian 442.

That 307 is probably technically rarer than the 3.8T, but I haven't seen any specific production figures on it either. I have the 307 in mine. Don't expect any kind of performance from the car though. Don't get me wrong, I still love the T, but I can't wait till I can park a turbo car next to it in the garage. But for 2 grand, that 307 will probably run forever. They're pretty bulletproof motors from what I understand. I rebuilt mine at about 100,000 miles, but it had some problems that weren't factory caused (I hope).

If it has a low set of gears in it (I think mine originally had 2.xx in the rear) you'll get great gas mileage with the overdrive trans, but it won't come out of hole worth anything. If you can come across a set of 3.42 or 3.73's, I think it's worth it unless you drive freeway all the time. Also check and make sure the secondary's on the Quadrajet open all the way.

It'd make a great daily driver though. I still get tons of compliments on it around town and it confuses the hell out of people with the turbo hood on.

V8 T For sale!

If the car is clean, runs good, I would buy it ! Its rare and make a great driver, or a wekend car. Good luck, with you decision.

The second I saw the v8 I thought to myself... Clean 87 T body, 2 grand.... 4 into it I could bring out 9-10g. Interior was 2 tone black grey also. I couldnt beleive it.

Sounds like somebody may have pieced a car together. Only the GN came with the black/gray seats. Check the VIN. If the 8th character is the number 7 than it started out as legit turbo. The letters A and Y mean NA motor. Another option is to cross check the codes on the SPID label in the trunk a$$uming it is stiil there.
