At least in this area, most every time I'm at a stop light, parked to go into the store or drivers going the other way all I get is compliments and thumbs up. The people that do know what a GN is can't say enough about them. I'm really impressed with people going out of their way to pay a compliment. There has NEVER been anything that I have owned that has received the attention that this car has............and I appreciate it. Drew

If you have a problem with people looking at you, dont drive a Gn around town. Most people are clueless, but you are gonna get some stares, no doubt about it. It is an interesting situation, people know its not a dime a dozen stang, even if they don't know exactly what it is.
i've gotten more stares than i ever would have imagained! i went from driving a bright yellow 75 vega ,if you've never seen one there very different looking cars,kinda like a camero, kinda like something else, i dont' know what, but there cool looking cars. so i go from that to a dark blue t-type with a vinal roof and nothing to give it away other than the hood and emblems. I guess in this town most people probably think its a project low rider (i really don't like this town) and are wondering if i have hydrolicks (sp???) but even still, lost of looks. kinda cool!

Yup, to us guys, its all about the ego. I dont care how you wanna paint the picture. Of course getting compliments and stares and all the rest is gonna make you feel good, its all an ego booster. The speed is just the fun part.

In an ignorant way those guys were paying you a compliment. Implying it wasn't a Buick?! Imitation is the truest form of flattery, or something like that. We know what we have. When people inquire about it but don't know what it is I smile and politely answer their questions without giving a complete history of TB's. If they are interested enough to ask questions I'll try to be courtious and answer them. Drew

I may have a new one for everyone. Due to the fantastic weather we are having up here in MA I made it to my first car show just last week. My friend Steve (SLZ on this board) went with me. We were parked close to each other with only one car in between us (A Monte Carlo). Steve has an 87 Grey Turbo T Limited. He has the cooshy bench seat, column shift, landau roof. You know the basic grandpa sleeper car. As I am standing there listening to some guy with his friend and their 2 kids (both boys about 15 yrs old or so). One kid says to his dad as they are pointing to Steve's engine, "It's the same thing as that car over there." (pointing to my GN) The dad snaps at his son, " No they are not, this is a Buick (Steve's car) and that is an Oldsmobile (my car).
So, they finally make it to my car and then the father starts looking back at Steve's car and finally says, "Maybe they are the same motor?" The older guy he is with looks on the side of my car and notices the GN emblems and says, "This is a Grand National, these cars are so fast!" The father that had snapped at his son says, "Oh really, and then left to go look at other cars to avoid looking any more stupid than he obviously did.
To top it off as I was leaving the show I passed another father with his young son and heard him say, "Look at that nice Monte Carlo."
I have received many compliments on my car from those who know what it is. I never had anyone ever confuse my car for an Olds Cutlass before. If I wasn't so curious to see what other stupid things were going to come out of his mouth I would have corrected him.

The most compliments I get are at gas stations. The attendants almost always know EVERYTHING about TRs for some reason. In parking lots I sometimes get ridiculous offers. "Nice car, I'll give you $4k for it". On the streets, I get completely ignored. Either people know about the car and don't want to tango, or assume it's just some plain jane regal and ignore it, I don't know. Sort of frustrating sometimes but it's probably kept me out of trouble.
