Looking through the service manual and noted this tool is to be used to press the pin for a press pin fitting. Does anyone know if this tool requires a press and if it gives you the orientation automatically that I have been balking about in previous posts?

And oh yeah, can you buy this thing anywhere

Ok did a search kind of expensive...

Thanks

Yes,

I have one of those tools. It requires a press. It does work very well, but you need to be sure you have the right fork to support the rod and not interfere with the piston. Installation can also be tricky. You might be better off to let a machine shop handle the job. If they screw it up they are responsible, not you.

I've never tried this, but a buddy installed his piston pins in an interesting way. He put the pins in the freezer to cool them (metal contracts when cooled) and heated his rods (they expand when heated) He said he was able to slip the pins into the rods without a press.

Thoughts guys????

Most good engine builders use a "rod oven" on pressed pin. They stick the small end of the rod in this heating device and the pin goes in like a slip fit.

Spent Moore tools will nick you good for one of those fixtures and all the acessories.
