well, i finally got alky on my car, its the SMC kit, got it second hand off a friend, so i dont have any instructions or what not that came with it. so i was wondering if you guys here can give me a hand tuning this thing.

what should i set my fuel pressure to?

when i set the the 'on' knob where should i set it to? it seems that that knob will turn indefinatly to the left (counter-clockwise) but it stops when i turn it all the way to the right... (clockwise). so if i set it all the way to the right and back it up, how far should i back it up? where do i want to set to on point to?

then when i get the on point set do i set the pump speed all the way to 10, set my max boost, and then start backing the knob until i have knock and then go back a little and leave it?

thanks in advance

Bout time neil! ;) Just kidding.. When you do find out let me know..Also did you get the new kit with non-round resevoir?

usually drop fuel pressure 1 1/2 LBS. And start at a non aggressive boost level like 20 PSI. Set your pump speed to like 7-8 and turnon at 10-12 PSI.

Use a street chip with low timing and this will get your feet wet.

If you have a small regulator for your air compressor or can accurately fill a portable tank with 10psi. I would hook that up to the unit when it's all hooked up and then adjust the turn on to correspond to the accurate 10psi. rerference.

I have a regulator I can hook up to my shop air with a very accurate gage on it for this.

Makes it easy to set the turn on point to get in the ballpark.

can i take an air blower on the air compresser with a rubber snout on it, turn the air compresser to 10 psi or so and test it that way?

oh yeah, and the knob spinnning like it does, is that normal?

thanks for the help

hehe

Vendor.. yes it spins and spins..careful you dont break it.

alright i got my alky to come on, i figured it out by taking a air blower, setting it to about 10psi, and blew it into the like that goes into the SMC box, sucess, but after the the 'spraying' light comes on, or whatever it is, the amber one comes i dont hear the pump in the alky running... should i?

i started the car, put the air blower into the line again, and see if i could hear the pump running while i made the'artifical' boost, but i still couldnt... then i tryed just pushing the perge button, but still didnt hear it running....

am i supposed to hear the pump run?

thanks...

You wont hear it from inside the car.

If you have someone push the test button, if you put your ear to the tank, you should hear it BUZZZ..if not,, houston..we have a problem.

You can also verify you are getting 12 volts by measuring the terminals on the connector going to the pump. When you push the test button, it should show 12v approx. Unscrew the RCA top and measure with a test lite. One will have +12 and the other wont..if those conditions are not met..the pump will not spin.

If you have the 12 volts and ground..you have a bad pump.

Which can happen if the kit has been sitting empty for an extended period of time...

ah crap, well i cant figure out exactly how my multimeter works right now, but the test light is idiot proof, so i grounded the test light, and touched the other end to the red wire on the RCA connector. i then had my g/f hit the test button and the light lights up when she hits the test button... so the problem lays somewhere i am guessing between the RCA and the pump, or the pump itself. if it is the pump, can i replace it with the Walbro 307 pump i have sitting around?

TIA

-Neil

BAD SMC PUMP

No.. the walbro isnt designed to run alky.

Last ditch effort..unscrew the top, and probe directly on the pump connections.. if your test lite lites on the red and doesnt lite on the black..you have a bad pump.

Contact Steve at SMC for pump replacement...

Put a piece of wire on it so it can reach..
