I never touch the rockers when I do a boost leak check, since generally only 1 valve will be open at a time. When both are open, the flowpath should be pretty minimal and have little effect.

Boost leak check every time you do anything with the piping in the car and you will be a lot happier.

Damn that guy's procedure is overly complex. Why not just set the regulator at 12PSI and use a clamp on tire valve? As long as no cylinders are on overlap, it'll work without all the extra steps and leave your hands free to get with the soap squirting.

I suppose if you have major leaks, regulated shop air that is continuous would be easier. Closing off the exhaust would allow a full test of the headers too. Other than plumbers test plugs I don't know how closing off the exhaust could be done easily. I've seen rubber plugs that inflate but they run in the 25$ range a piece.

I don't see any reason to test any piping downstream of the turbo and oxygen sensor, if even that far.

Plugging the exhaust would allow testing of the headers/crossover and turbo flange as well as leaks farther under the car which could be seeping inside.

You have to do the with the rockers off?

I would not touch the rockers. If there is an exhaust leak you will hear it leaking. I would pull down pipe and test from there forward. What are you searching for? I use a smoke machine to look for leaks on intake side. As for lower intake leaks. if you suspect the gasket is blown out try this. remove pcv valve and block hole now take a vacuum gauge and install it on dipstick tube if it shows any signs of manifold vacuum you have an intake leak. If you pull pcv replace grommet and like stated above get zip ties ready because you will find many leaks. good luck

I made my own boost leak tester for 12 bucks. All parts from home depot,
When i did my testing i just slapped it on a let the air blow, i never did anything with the rockers or anything else, just installed it made sure it was secure and slapped the air into it, i found lots of leaks....throttle shaft seals, turbo compressor housing seal, egr, and a few vac lines..... And now my nash is idleing so dam sweet and feels much better...

I would just go ahead and put that sucker on and see what u find,
U probably be amazed
Oh and btw eveytime i found 1 leak i would fix it then put the tester back on then check again, until u have no more leaks

Take the rockers off
Leave the rockers on
Take the rockers off
Leave the rockers on.

How is this guy supposed to know what to do?

I’m thinking to take them off. That way you can hear if the valves leak.

Try it both ways and let us know if there is a difference.
