Evel Knievel, the hard-living motorcycle daredevil whose exploits made him an international icon in the 1970s, died Friday. He was 69.

Knievel death was confirmed by his 21-year-old granddaughter, Krysten Knievel. He had been in failing health for years, suffering from diabetes and idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis, an incurable condition that scarred his lungs. He had undergone a liver transplant in 1999 after nearly dying of hepatitis C, likely contracted through a blood transfusion after one of his bone-shattering spills.

His death came just two days after it was announced that he and rapper Kanye West had settled a federal lawsuit over the use of Knievel’s trademarked image in a popular West music video.

RIP Evel.

Im gonna go play with my stunt cycle,It was one of my favorite toys

He is the true definition of a guy with "balls".

Everyone else has been a poser except for his son. Robbie has done some pretty brutal jumps himself. But nobody holds a candle to the things Evel did.

What a guy, he had many ups and downs but was always cool to me. I got to see him jump busses at kings island when I was a kid and I'll never forget it. He did pretty good with the ladies too. You'll always be #1 Evel.

good idea OTTO I think I'll get out my stunt cycle for old times sake, I still keep it on a shelf in the living room.

Little do you know,I was playing with it when we stayed over that night.
I had 5 dies cast GNs layed end to end and he cleared all 5:D

I ripped dozens of spokes out of many bicycle wheels jumping off ramps made from 4' x 8' sheets of plywood in my back yard thanks to "The Evel One". Sad that such a great inspiration is gone.

I was a big Evel Knievel fan when I was a kid. I think that I slept with my EK lunch box for about a week after I found it under the Xmas tree. I'm sure that I racked my nuts, and went over the handle bars of my bike a few times cuz of him. Would'nt change it for the world:cool: .

EVEL #1

Did anyone else here ever hear Evel's interview with Jim Rome a few years back? It was like 2 hours long. Best interview of all time. I just wish I could find a recording of it.

Awww Mannn....

That guy was definitely Ole School and they just don't make men like him anymore.... He definitely had NO FEAR, and broken bones were a common part of his routine.

Otto,

I had that stunt cycle too........didn't work well for me cause my folks had bad 70's shag carpet and it never worked like it did in the commercials, those kids had hardwood floors:biggrin:

I wore out several stunt cycles when I was a kid. I would run them up and down the hallway. Man, would my dad get aggravated hearing: rrrrrrrrrrrrr(winding sound)zoom, jump, land, crash, and laughing my 7 yo arse off. :D
