This is the car that started my love for Regals. I was 20 and I had an '85 Shelby Charger turbo that burned to the ground after 2 months (Don't ask), and my grandparents were nice enough to sell me their '81 Regal for $800. This was back in '91. Car had the original 14" 5 spoke chrome Buick wheels on it when I got it.
My wife found the Vector wheels from a guy for $40 for all 4  . I cleaned them up and painted the centers black, they turned out really well.
Looking back, I don't know why I had the car painted, because in the pics, the burgandy looks great, lol. There must have been a reason, but I forget. A buddies dad did body/paint work, and he shot the car for me for free! I did the prep and paid for the materials, but he wouldn't accept any money. He's a very cool guy, haven't seen him in at least 6 years :(
I ripped out the 231 and put in a 327 that I bought from a guy who had it in a Camaro. The engine pic is right after I slapped it in, so nothing was completely in order yet. The car ran great, but was a slug off the line. I just had the stock 6 cyl gears in it though. Anyone know whay they came with in '81??
I wrecked the car about a year and a half after these pics. It was definitely fixable, but I got disgusted and ditched it :(
I really miss that car, and could kick myself for getting rid of the motor and wheels *sigh*. Stupid kids :D

:sheds a tear:

Ah, the memories of the ol' "first car". My first car was an '82 Olds Cutlass I bought for $200, running ! The catalytic converter was stopped up on it and the guy didn't have a clue what was wrong with it. I drove it maybe a year and wrecked it.....had the little 260 V8 in it. Pulled that motor out and put it in a $300 '82 Regal and drove it for a while. I, like you, wish I still had the ol' Regal. :( That's ok, I've got a '78 Cutlass wagon for a daily that's a pretty good lookin' ride.
