I have decided to go with a 200 4R transmission over the 700R4 for my 82 G-body Oldsmobile with H.O 305. The 200 4R is a 1986, and of course, it is NOT a "B" code transmission.
If memory serves me correct, it is a "K" code as it came from an Oldsmobile with the highly sought after 307
Internal condition appears to be good due to the fact that upon pan removal, I found it to be very clean. I, unfortunatly am NOT flush with cash, so I would like to use this transmission (after I tear it down to more closely inspect and replace a few items).
I am going to guess that the calibration of the valve bodies of these "K" code transmissions could best be described as "soft and mushy" and is due to various factors, and I just bet that the G.M. engineers also played with the valve body spool diameters as well. My question is this. Will the addition of a good shift programming kit (such as Transgo), and a different governor assembly improve the shift quality at all? Or is this valve body unsalvageable? I see that TCI offers a valve body that is "BRF Calibrated" but for some reason this statement makes me a tad nervous. Any input would be greatly appreciated.
