Wisinger honored by Veterans of Foreign Wars
Phillips County Sheriff Paul Wisinger has been named the 2007-2008 Veteran of Foreign Wars Law Enforcement Office of the Year for Kansas District 9.
District 9 includes Gove, Trego, Ellis, Sherman, Thomas, Sheridan, Graham, Rooks, Wallace, Logan, Cheyenne, Rawlins, Decatur, Norton and Phillips counties. This means that Wisinger prevailed over police chiefs, police officers, sheriffs and sheriffs deputies from communities as large and as far flung as Hays, Goodland, Oakley, Colby and points between.
In a ceremony held at the Phillips County Courthouse on the morning of Jan. 7, J.T. Plummer, Logan, who is the Senior Vice Commander of VFW Post 8876 (Stockton), presented the award to Wisinger. Plummer said that the VFW awarded Wisinger the honor for the “total spectrum” of what Wisinger has done for area law enforcement including upgrading equipment, integrating communications systems between various emergency agencies, and overseeing a lowering of the crime rate. Plummer also noted that Wisinger’s background in civic organizations and his overall law enforcement accomplishments were also a decided factor in his selection as VFW District 9’s top cop.
With this award, Wisinger is now in the running for the VFW’s Kansas Law Enforcement Officer of the Year, the winner of which will be announced later this month.
