Will adjusting the kick down cable actually change the shift point on my GN?

Yes, but don't adjust it to far off the standard setting.
proper way ti set it is to push in on the "D" shaped button on the side and force the pastic insert towards the firewall until flush with the guide. Depress the accel pedal completely (from the inside only), you'll hear it click out and adjust.
test drive it and tweek as needed.

Why from the inside only?? It's hits full throttle either way, what's the difference??

From the inside...
...because then you get an accurate movement from the pedal, maybe you dont have enough travel, maybe you have thick floormats, whatever. A lot of times, the pedal will not push it as far as turning it by hand.

And its not really a "kickdown cable". It does a lot more than tell the car when to shift. It controls line pressure in the trans. If you try to make it shift too high (pulling it back too far) then you will not get the throttle blades all the way open on your motor. If you set it too loose, then you run the risk of burning up your trans because your pressure is too low. Dont treat it like a shift kit, because its not.
Like Zam70 wrote, dont take it too far off factory settings.

Ok that's fine except for if you have thick floor mats and you aren't getting full throttle then that's a whole nother problem and that's not good either...that means that if you set it from in the car you're ACTUALLY setting it to high and not to the factory setting...I always do it from outside and make sure that I move the throttle all the way to the stop, that way there can be no errors.

Thank's for the help guy's, I'll try it one way or the other.(OR BOTH WAY'S) I really don't think it would matter either way if you have the same amount of travel from inside as it doe's from outside.

Thank's again

Point of the matter is - you might NOT have the same travel (I didn't and 2 other GNs I've worked on don't). You would think you would but, trust me...it could be different. Why would you want to reference your adjustment to something you DON'T do while driving (operate the throttle blade by hand). It is best to operate it just like you would when normally driving.

I just went through solving all of this just recently and I learned alot.

It is NOT a "kickdown" cable. It is NOT a shift point cable. It operates a pressure control valve that can regulate all those things BUT if misadjusted you will destroy your trans in a very short period of time.

do what you want but the OEM way of adjusting it should put you very close to right. A minor adjustment one way or the other (one click or notch) should be all the adjustment you need. If you need more than that, you've got other problems (incorrect TV cable or the wrong governor - both of which was my initial problem)

Go to
www.tvmadeez.com (the site is down right now)
they explain how things work thoroughly

Thank's for the link zam70, That explained it very well and now I know a lot more about what I'm doing, For me I will check and make sure I'm getting WOT at the pedal and when I set it I'll set it by turning the throttle linkage from under the hood.

Thank's again
