I am posting here because it is not for a GN. My friend wanted a started kill in his 87 Monte so we cut the starter wire under the dash and ran both ends of the wire to a hidden switch. Worked great for a while. No crack until the button was pushed. Then one day it did not want to crank so we bypassed the switch and then it worked. Figured maybe too much amperage and fried the switch. So, we got a new switch and this time I installed a N.O. relay which when energized from the hidden button will close the contact. Again worked for a week and then the car would not crank. Put the starter wire back together and the car started? Here is where it gets really confusing. In both cases with the relay and without it was like pot luck sometimes it would start and others it would not. But as soon as you put the starter wire back together it would work flawlessly for weeks without a problem. We used 14awg wire. Anyone have any thoughts as to why this is happening?

I don't have the answer to your questiton but we will be bringing back our touch and go system which ties into that starter wire circuit matter of fatc it is the only wire you cut in the car no switch is needed to activate and it sets automatically when you **** the car off..also has a valet setting..

we sold hundreds of these back in the early 1990s with no issues. Control box has a circuit board so that may have something to do with your problem of simply cutting the wire and installing a switch...

my system will easily work on the monte carlo heck the cranking wire may even be the same color I think its pink?

how it works you run one wire to a trim screw...other to a ground. to start car you touch the trim screw and any metal part of your car on the buick the metal spoke of the steering wheel and cr will then start....pretty trick not detectable since their is no switch no funky alarm under the hood and you only disturb on wire in the car so if something did go wrong making it work without the unit is very simple...

unit will sell for under $75... be available later this summer....

The relay should have worked if it's a 30A or 40A Bosch type automotive relay and you didn't add much wire to the circuit.

You sure the relay triggered when it was failing?

I'd also check the voltage out on that IGN wire to the starter you cut, make sure it's very close to battery voltage key ON and car not running.

If you want a really good theft deterrent system, interrupt one of the critical wires going to the ECM with a hidden switch or contact device. Not easy and time consuming to trace down. A knowledgeable thief can easily jump the heavy lead at the starter to the start terminal right next to it, or jump the red lead under the column.

While many methods exist, a determined thief wll get your car if he wants I have heard stories even with the car blocked in on a driveway they will move the car and use a rollback.

Sirens are usually ignored....

The trick is, to at least use something as any delay in stealing your car probably half the cases will cause the thief to move on to another car, or may allow you to catch the thief in the process. Lets face it, once its gone it is a low priority with law enforcement to recover it.

The touch and go system we will soon have out again beats having no deterrant plus it sets automatically so its not something you have to remember to set.

Most of our cars have enough air space between the door glass and the pillar they could use a coat hanger that was five times as thick to put up the lock button.

The best security is layered security. Alarm, ignition switch, fuel switch, glass sensors, etc. When a theif gets through one system he'll get frustrated with the others and just leave for easier pickings.

I've been waiting for the engineers to come up with an ignition system scrambler,

meaning when activated you hear gunshot like backfires when cranking it over.

I don't know how to do it but I'll take credit for the idea...

a Back fire / gunshot WILL attract attention.....

even the anti theft chips leave the perp frustrated.

20 sec delay trigger on the door once its opened, the chump sits down in seat it triggers again to the two very small squirters that are rigged up in the top of winshield by visor to release massive amounts of pepper spray into their eyeballs.

might kill the interior but the a$$wipe will be blind:D
