We were traveling from New Mexico to Las Vegas on vacation and had to stop in Kingman yesterday to get some gas. Found a Shell station and noticed the actual building was locked up. They have "pay at the pumps" available so I got out the credit card. Ran the card and after being approved, tried to get the nozzle out but they were padlocked.

Went to another station and the little computer at the pump wanted my pin number so I punched that in. Then it asked for my zip code. Punched that in. Then it displays "failure:Cancelled". Go to another place (Arco) and same thing. Finally had to get gas at a Safeway pump where it approved my card in around 4 seconds.

Last year when we drove thru, we stopped at another Shell station by I93 with some fat female slob sitting on her butt inside reading and I couldn't get the pumps to work. I went in to ask her if there was a problem with the pumps and she says "we're outta gas". I told her "would have been nice if you put a sign up" I told the wife we should have flown but she is scared of that.

Anyone else have this problem in Kingman?

Kingman hospitality

Hey welcome to kingman!
I used to think we were the meth lab capitol of the US, but just read where Tennessee has that crown!
Sad.... but the attitude here is "let someone else do it"
lot of loosers here, and others, who are just burn't out.
Sorry you had a tough time here, but there are good folks around, and most of the gas stations in town are what you'd find anytown, USA.
If your ever in the area again, holler, and I personally will offer some help, maybe even show you what to see around here.
This town was a small little town, til about 3-4 yrs ago, started growing, hasn't stopped, with it you get the good and the bad,
maybe we have more than our share of the bad , crime is down, very seldom have a murder, and drive by shooting are unheard of here!

Thanks for stopping by, please try it again, hope its better next time!

Thanks cruzn57. Well, the wife started looking at houses here in Mesquite and a few in St. George and now wants me to start a transmission business in either place also. I really don't want to move out here, maybe Phoenix, but not farther north. I'll be sure and get in touch next time we come thru. I'll be flying over next year on my way to Reno for my grandfather's 90 b-day.

Thanks for the reply

Not saying this is heaven, but there is only 2 trans shops here, one is questionable, the other so-so, I manage the county fleet , and I normally call to Phx for a trans, which means a 2-3 day delay.
Use caution if you go north of here, it is very Mormon, and they a very slow to use outsiders, it'll be a tough go ,until they accept you.
Either way good luck in your venture, and Yes, please stop if you come thru, I'm building a new garage, (40x50) and can always use an idea for decoration,
Thanks

Yeah, I noticed that St. George was Mormon. We went into the Smith's store in Mesquite and lots of people just stared. I have long hair. A couple guys who had short hair and 'tarded sideburns were kinda loud and one said "did you see that guy with the girls hair?" and mumbled something else. When I saw them at the other side of the store I told the wife "there's the two gay hillbillies". One gave me a dirty look and I just stared back waiting to see what he was going to do. They backed off when I mouthed "WTF!!"

It was pretty cold in St. G and not quite as cold in Mesquite. I'd be happy in Phoenix, but the wife wants to move farther north.

where in AZ?

I Hope you research PHX closely, it has a higher crime rate, and more murders per capita, than almost anywhere, Not knocking it, just more than I want to be around! plus its noticeably warmer there than in the northern part of the state.
I work with the Mohave county Sheriffs dept daily, and can get you statistics if you need .
I don't know the population of PHX, but its one of the fastest growing cities in the US, where ever you land, good luck with your business!
I wouldn't worry about a few comments from some of the local boys, no matter where you go, there are always some who open their mouth, before they engage their brain.
Long Hair? heck ........... my wife l has long hair! ( but I tell her to keep her shirt buttoned!)

have a great holiday !!

Yeah, I know about the crime rate. We passed thru on the way home yesterday coming down 60/93 and ran down the west side of Phoenix to get to I-10. Were out on 303 around the 17,000's in the avenues above Bell Rd. where it is mostly farm region and the wife says "This doesn't look bad". You could see the smoke/smog above downtown. I don't let the long hair comments bother me too much since a while back two army guys came into work. One of them said something about my ponytail while I was getting some water and pointed to his hair and said "that's a good boys hair cut". I gave him a look like FU and told him "Jesus had long hair!" and walked out of the office. His buddy knocked him across the chest and told him to shut up.
