I have noticed that if I rev my car up to about 3,000 rpms and let off the gas really quickly, I get 1 green light on Caspers knock gage. The further I go up in rpms the worse it gets. At about 5,000 the gauge is pegged. My laptop with DS doesn't boot up any more so I haven't been able to see what is going on. Do you think that this is false knock.

Thanks
Chris

why in the hell are you doing that? that is real dumb!

worry about knock when the engine is under load (ie in gear and moving)....otherwise you are going to hurt something expensive.....and it has nothing to do with knock!

Started out by thinking that I had my car in gear and it was in neutral. Pushed down on the accelerator and noticed that the knock lights came on and that I didn't go anywhere.....so curiousity took over. What would break by just reving the motor up with out getting near Redline.

understand........free reving doesn't hurt much on the way up, just on the way down when all those parts that should be clearanced together, aren't

bottom line, don't worry about knock unless you are goin' down the road

(BTW, you WERE at redline at 5,000)

There has to be something making a LOT of noise to set off the gauge when not in gear. I have my front cover and oil pan off right now because I was missing 26 of 40 teeth on the cam gear and when you brought it up to about 1200-1400 when under the hood in park there was a bunch of valvetrain noise and the knock gauge wouldn't see anything but when driving the car it would show knock when leaving a stop light at part throttle then it would go away. I was very lucky to catch it before it broke and got some valves but not lucky enough as I'm now putting rod and main bearings in it because of the oil bypass letting those aluminium particles get to the bearings.

If it does it in park or neutral I don't see how it could be false because nothing is moving around outside the engine to set off the knock gauge and I seriously doubt its lean if it does it when your letting off the gas, something inside is having a problem.

aw baloney.....with Casper's gauge, you will see knock free revving all the time...if not, the gauge ain't workin'

it shows knock when you start the car..................

I like smoked turkey better :D

I'm just saying I had a lot of noise that I thought should be setting it off in P/N and it wasn't, I even did the tap test to make sure it was still working.

I certainly don't condone going to 5K just to test things as I usually stop at about 3000-3500 if I'm blipping the throttle once in a blue moon.
