I just installed a knock gauge from caspers in the 84 GN, how can I tell if its working? when I turn the key the first green light comes on, as I turn the key and crank the engine over and starting the lights go up to the red zone, then it returns to just the green bottom light in standby mode. Is the lights cycling from green to red upon starting it picking up the engine cranking over and thus registering knock? I cant get any lights to come on as im driving indicating knock, but I only have the stock turbo set at 9 pounds. thanks.

Also, where is the knock sensor located on the 84 block? If I increase idle and tap near it will that register on the knock gauge? Just an idea?

It sounds like it is working. After starting it comes back to the bottom green and shouldn't move unless you get knock which you shouldn't at 9#'s. I think the taping thing will work. The sensor is located at the very back of the block by the firewall. Or you could just crank it up to about 25#'s of boost and see what happens????

Take a long extension and a hammer and put the extension on the engine block somewhere and tap on it with the hammer several times in a row...Have someone watching the gauge and it should register something...A single tap generally won't do it, you have to keep tapping on it until the gauge lights up...

BTW, the engine has to be running... ;)
