I have removed my knock sensor and it is in my hands awaiting its' destiny with the sledge hammer tomorrow. I need enough light. Can't afford to miss and hurt myself or my concrete garage floor. .... . .
Good job!
Can you post the "before" and "after" pictures? ;)

Good job, Brad! Glad it went well for you.
Now we all learned something from it!!

Here are PICS of the old sensor and a new one for comparison. The used one I installed still had the pink on the threads and the rubber around the white tip was in good shape. I have no clue if this means anything. The lesson learned here is that a hot air knock sensor replacement is very easy and uncomplicated. Thanks- Brad

lmfao. now make the other thread on plug wires. i want to chime in on that post

If someone in your area will lend you a fresh coil pac, give it a try. I improved my situation by a wide margin after replacing my 20+ year unit with MSD 8878 adapter and newer coil pac.
If you need to have the adapter, give me a post, I've got a NIB spare.
A new set of wires would be another positive if you can't remember the last time your current set were changed.
Check you fuel pressure too, if the regulator isn't at spec it will create knock.
Have fun

I too would like to see that one.....

I hit the knock sensor with a sledge hammer and the sensor won. Sledge hammer bounced off. Hitting the sensor still felt good after chasing this knock problem off and on for four years. Car runs great. Brad

The answer is yes. The overtightened knock sensor has beem holding me back since to motor was replaced four years ago. All of my modifications have been handicapped by the knock sensor going off and retarding timing at three lbs boost. I just replaced bad coil pak and spark plug wires as well.
I am really amazed at how fast my car is now on only 11-12 lbs boost and no alky. I will no start turning up the boost and alky and tune. Thanks- Brad

advance autoparts has them often too!!!

Brad... What happened with your coil and wires? I have the stock coil in my car as well (putting together soon), and I am tryin to figure out what I need to replace... I have a new 87 coil, and a plastic adapter place, but isnt there something else I need to change?

John;)

John- I am running the 87 coil module and pak. I use the Caspers adapter for the coil module. I also run the Caspers 87 coil pak hot wire kit as well. I have no idea if this adds anything to the car-added when chasing knock.

I ohmed out the coil pak and accross all three coils which resulted in 13.8 ohms. This test needs to show 11-13 ohms. Bad coil pak. I then ohmed out all six spark plug wires. The results went from 1.0 to 8.0. Each wire needs to be within 10% of each other per foot in length. Bad wires.

Changed the coil pak and wires with good ones and the results were very noticable. Engine is alot stronger and no more backfire through the engine.
This with the new knock sensor has put me on track. Take care- Brad

ok while I was coming back from NSRA event I decided to put in 87 octane since I was gonna be on the hiway not using boost, man did it ping when I did use any boost, had a monitor 4000e hooked up and it wasnt showing any knock. so do I need a new knock sensor too? but I did get 21.69 mpg with the gas. :)

I would not buy a new knock sensor since they are almost indestructible. I would simply check to make sure the sensor is tightened to only 14 ft lbs. Brad

thanks Brad, I bet thats the problem cause I dont think I torqued it when I put the motor in.
