This is my second TR a 1986 GN, with 62k miles. The car seems to run good, idles a little lopey but not too bad for a 100% factory stock TR (may need the IAC adjusted). I may be too picky but the car seems to lack power (as compared to my 87), maybe it is just shifting into second gear too soon. As soon as I start pulling and building boost from a dead stop the transmission shifts into second gear and I loose momentum while spinning through second gear. It is almost as if I'm not getting enough throttle. I am in the process of borrowing a scan tool, but I thought I would pick you minds, maybe I'm forgetting something simple. The car is stock down to the factory muffler. The car will build boost but seems to shift in to second before it starts to really pull. I have adjusted the TPS, TV cable, replaced the TCC and the car retains is stock (D5 marked) torque converter. The compression in the cylinders is good, no smoking. I need a scan tool to adjust the IAC. What am I forgetting. I know I may be a little premature in asking, but I want to cover my bases on what to look for before I I ran a scan. The car does not ping under load, nor does it buck, hesitate or pop. Just needing some ideas

I know you may not be able to help due to the lack of infomation, but it doesn't hurt to ask.

Thanks in advance for the help,

Aaron

Your sure the tranny knows your at full throttle? Can you feel the TV cable bottom out just before WOT, moving the throttle blade by hand? At what rpm does it shift 2-3?

Good suggestion, As I read, it occured to me that I need to check on a couple of things. First I have always adjusted the TV cable by depressing the throttle linkage by hand (all under the hood). I have never tested to see if I'm getting full throttle by depressing the throttle pedal inside the car...if that makes any since. Before I start playing with the TV cable I want to check to see if I get WOT while depressing the pedal to floor. Is there an adjustment for the throttle cable that you know of? If I'm not getting WOT while depressing the pedal to the floor is there a way to adjust the throttle cable?

Thanks good place to start sometimes I miss the obvious.

Aaron
