I have a 3 1/2 DP and external wastegate setup that was hooked up to a PT-88 3bolt with a .96 A/R I wanted to see if anyone has ever ran something like this on a 109? I also wanted to know what the smallest large frame was. One that I might be able to spool with 231 inches and that will work with my DP setup.

Thanks Jay

i have seen someone run that turbo on a stock block. and spool it up with nos. but even with a built up bottom end. your never going to push that turbo to far before breaking something. you'll be pushing things hard enough with the 70 gtq. i ran a 70 gtq into the 9's and after a while a worked stock rod let go. wrecked the motor. to me. the bottom line is a good crank and rods to go with the rest of what you have. and maybe a stage block!

jay your pm box is full and the email adress isnt working. do you still have the 88? are you looking to sell that set-up? thanks---len

I dont have an 88 I have a Stage Motor but I dont have the cash right now to finish it. I was running the GTQ with a 3in DP and my EGT's were crazy with no boost or timming and running rich. I was thinking I would get a large frame 76 or smaller that could be upgraded to an 88 when my Stage II is finished because I have already sold my stock style setup.

I dont think that is a large frame turbo I believe they have like an R exhaust wheel? I know the exhaust wheel on a large frame 76 makes a Q wheel look like a baby its like 3 1/2 inches.

I believe you may want a mid-frame turbo not a large frame. The large frame turbos generally have an "F" or a "G" wheel. FWIW: I have run a mid-frame 76, 80, and 88 on my current combination and have been very happy with the results of every one. All have gone 8's.

Jay, The smallest turbo that uses the TV flange is probably a GT-47 76mm or maybe a GT-45 but I don't know for sure. Probably have to call PTE to make sure. Also most large frame's will have a 5 inch V band exhaust outlet. I agree with Cal, to keep from modifying what you have you'll have to stay in the mid frame family.

I think your wanting to know what is the smallest turbo you can get and keep your current dp setup.

Yes I think it might be a mid-frame then the exhaust housing is the one that was the contraversey in TSE when it first came out in 2000 I think they nicknamed it the cantalope housing I think Gary Harmon and Joe Lubrant was running it then

I'm mot sure how small a turbo you can get to fit in that housing but PTE could probably build you a smaller one that would work. It might be hard to spool it though with a stock block and the .96 housing. Nothing a little shot couldn't fix though until you get a bigger motor.

Yea I will have to find out what the smallest one they make is, Im just trying to have a little fun for now I wont need it to spool fast but as long as it builds a little on the old E-brake it should be ok.
