I am not the most knowledgeable person when it comes to cars but I am learning. When I go to launch my car, I can only hold about 2 lbs. of boost before my tires begin to slip, and only a pound or two more before they spin (new tires). I'm pretty sure I dont want my tires to be spinning immediatly after I release the brake so I assume I need to find a way to hold more boost. Do I need to get better brakes or some other somthing else?

Another related problem I have is that when I launch without my tires spinning before hand, my car will not peel out at all until it jumps into second gear. Does it sound like I need to tune my car better or learn how to drive it.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

it sounds like you need better tires.......if you spin your tires, you lose

it makes no difference how much boost you can hold if your tires are gonna spin when you let go

a zero boost launch that spins 'em when the boost comes in is just as bad

soooo, if ya wanna go fast, ya gotta get some tires that will take the turbo (drag radials at a minimum)

this may sound dumb....but are you basically saying that it is my tires that need to be holding still, not my brakes holding the tires?

I would say it's a little of both tires and brakes. My first experience at the drag strip was a nightmare. I got to the line got about 2 lbs of boost and the tires started to spin let off the gas and before I had a chance the light was green. This was all stock motor and radials, the best time I could get was 14.8 2.1 60ft. I decided to do a few upgrades and added fuel pump, down pipe, chip, exhaust and ET streets. Next trip to the track 13.50 1.9 60 ft. I added a cold air kit, race gas and increased the boost to 18 lbs and ran my best so far 13.33 1.8 60 ft. I just finished putting on the s-10 wheel cylinders, aluminium drums, line lock, 108 chip, skinnes on the front and t-type rims in the rear. I plan on getting her back to the track Friday hoping for my first 12 second pass. I think the more you drive the better you will launch even with radials.
