Heres the write-up from Gnttype.org: http://www.gnttype.org/techarea/engine/rearmain.html

Basically remove: pull the crossover, oil pan, rear main cap, rear main seal, oil pick up tube (if the screen is clogged). Make sure the lip on the seal is facing toward the front of the engine. It helps to "clock" the seal a bit so it doesnt meet where the main cap meets the block. Use a light film of the "Right Stuff" RTV on the seal, as well as on the corners of the block where the main cap meets. If replacing the oil pickup, be sure to torque to factory specs (96 in-lb I think), and use some blue loctite to make sure it doesnt come loose. Really not a bad job at all. Most important thing it to make sure all oil is removed from surfaces before installing new seal/oil pan gasket.

Are you sure it is the rear main seal and not the oil pan or valve cover gaskets?

If you can find wet oil anywhere on the motor and especially above the rear seal (anywhere on the motor that is at a higher level),but not necessarily, suspect that leak as the cause of the oil at the rear of the motor first.

I took the long motor mount bolts out and jacked the motor up some made the oil pan go back on easier when you are fighting the new oil pan gasket .
